We are partnering with a successful and growing project-based organisation that is entering an exciting phase of continued expansion and development. The business is looking to appoint an experienced Financial Controller to take ownership of the finance function and play a key role in supporting commercial performance, profitability and long‑term growth.
ABOUT THE ROLE:
This is a broad and commercially focused position, which would suit someone with financial control experience from a project-based business. The successful candidate will work closely with senior leadership and operational teams, providing both financial control and commercial insight across the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the preparation of monthly management accounts, financial reporting and performance analysis, providing clear and commercially relevant insights to senior stakeholders.
- Lead the annual budgeting process, rolling forecasts and financial modelling, helping the business understand future performance, opportunities and potential risks.
- Partner with operational and commercial stakeholders to assess financial performance, evaluate opportunities and provide financial input into key business decisions.
- Monitor revenue, costs, margins and overall business performance, identifying trends, variances and opportunities for improvement.
- Provide financial oversight across a portfolio of projects and contracts, ensuring accurate cost tracking, profitability analysis, forecasting and financial reporting.
- Take ownership of cash flow forecasting and working capital performance, working with stakeholders to support strong cash generation and financial efficiency.
- Maintain a robust control environment and ensure appropriate processes are in place across financial reporting, compliance, risk management and governance.
- Manage the annual audit process and work closely with external advisors on tax, statutory reporting and other regulatory requirements.
- Identify opportunities to improve financial processes, reporting and systems, driving greater efficiency, accuracy and visibility across the finance function.
- Lead and develop the finance team while acting as a trusted financial partner to senior management and wider business stakeholders.
- Provide financial analysis and insight to support investment decisions, business cases, strategic planning and future growth initiatives.
ABOUT THE PERSON:
- ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified with 6-10 years PQE with a project based/construction/infrastructure business
- Strong knowledge of project accounting, WIP, contract profitability and revenue recognition.
- Experience supporting senior management with commercial and strategic decision-making.
- Commercially minded with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proven experience managing and developing a finance team.
This is an office based role requiring the person to be on-site 5 days per week.
