Job summary

Barden is seeking a Financial Controller in Cork to lead the finance function and drive governance, reporting and forecasting improvements. Reporting to the Finance Director, you will manage a small team, ensure timely monthly accounts, and maintain statutory compliance across entities.

You will partner with IT and other departments to modernise systems, introduce AI and automation, and provide insightful analysis for strategic decision making.

Qualifications

Reporting to the Finance Director, a highly regarded, hands-on leader who will be a great person to work with, this is a key leadership role for the business. You will lead the finance team, maintain compliance, and add real value to business operations. Beyond the numbers, there is a clear mandate to modernise the finance function through technology to streamline reporting and forecasting and to free the team for higher-value analysis and decision support. It is a role with real breadth, real autonomy, and a defined path to progress within the organisation.

ABOUT THE ROLE

• Lead and mentor a finance team of circa five people, overseeing the smooth and timely execution of all accounting processes and reporting.
• Review and finalise monthly accounts and annual statutory Financial Statements across all entities, safeguarding the integrity of cashflows, balance sheets, and income statements.
• Prepare rolling cash forecasts and cashflow models, across the business.
• Monitor performance and profitability, run variance analysis, and identify areas of budget concern before they affect liquidity.
• Provide financial management and oversight across the business's key projects and operations.
• Support the raising of finance for key projects and investment initiatives.
• Prepare consolidated KPI, investor, and Board reports for the Finance Director and external stakeholders.
• Manage all statutory and financial returns and keep the company's corporate records fully compliant.
• Lead the finance function's digital transformation, identifying and implementing AI, automation, and data analytics tools to streamline reporting and forecasting.
• Partner with IT and other departments to modernise and integrate financial systems as the business continues to grow.

ABOUT THE PERSON

• A qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or CPA) with several years' experience in a business or finance environment and a strong track record of career progression.
• Commercial and analytical, with a clear grasp of financial indicators and the ability to translate them into insight for senior stakeholders.
• Proven people management experience, with strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Comfortable prioritising and managing workload across a team while holding high standards under pressure.
• Ambitious, diligent, and personable, with the confidence to challenge the status quo and drive continuous improvement.
• A natural self-starter, organised, and detail-focused, with the appetite to broaden your skills within a growing organisation.
