Job summary

Village Vets Dunboyne is seeking an experienced Veterinary Nurse (RVN) to join our urgent care team. The role requires providing continuous nursing care to critically ill or injured pets, supporting veterinarians during emergencies, and delivering high‑quality client care.

You will perform essential procedures, maintain records, and train junior staff, working closely with vets and support teams to ensure excellent outcomes for patients and their owners.

Qualifications

• Qualified and VCI registered RVN in small animal practice.
• 2+ years’ experience desirable but open to new grads.
• Strong clinical skills, resilience and compassion.
• Excellent communication and organisational skills.
• Team player and able to mentor junior staff.

Responsibilities

• Provide continuous nursing care to critically ill or injured patients.
• Support veterinarians during emergency procedures.
• Carry out IV catheter placement, medications, fluids, and diagnostics.
• Assist with anaesthesia induction, monitoring, and recovery.
• Maintain infection control and a clean environment.
• Communicate with owners and provide aftercare guidance.
• Keep detailed medical records and handovers between shifts.
• Help train junior team members.
• Collaborate with vets and staff for high‑quality emergency care.

Job description

Location: Village Vets Dunboyne

Reports to: Head Nurse

Schedule: 40 hours per week on average

Salary: €33,000 - €35,000 (Depending on Experience) + 1k Sign On Bonus

2+ years experience desirable but position open to new grads also!

About the Role

• Provide continuous, attentive nursing care to critically ill or injured patients, monitoring vital signs and assessing pain levels




• Support veterinarians during emergency procedures, including triage, resuscitation, wound management, and surgery




• Carry out essential medical procedures such as placing IV catheters, administering medications and fluids, and performing diagnostic tests




• Assist with anaesthesia induction, monitoring, and post‑operative recovery for critical patients




• Maintain strict infection control standards and ensure a clean, sterile environment




• Communicate clearly and compassionately with pet owners, providing updates and guidance on treatment and aftercare




• Work closely with vets, nurses, and support staff to deliver cohesive, high‑quality emergency care




• Help train and mentor junior team members in




• Keep detailed, accurate medical records and provide thorough handovers between shifts

About You

• Qualified and VCI registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN)




• 2+ years’ experience as a qualified RVN in small animal practice (open to new grads)




• This role demands strong clinical skills, resilience, and compassion to deliver high-quality care to patients in urgent need




• Highly motivated, hard-working, and a team player
