Job summary

Ibec in Ireland seeks an Executive to support Medtech and manufacturing sectors on environmental sustainability, OSH/EHS and chemicals, coordinating with member companies and the Director of Irish Medtech. You will prepare minutes, papers, and action plans, track policy developments such as CSRD, CBAM, PPWR, REACH, and liaise with regulators and government bodies.

The role requires a primary degree (science/engineering) with postgraduate qualifications advantageous; minimum 3 years’ experience;

Qualifications

• Primary degree in science or engineering (ideally).

• Support lobbying/representation activities at national and European levels.
• Develop contacts with government departments and regulators; liaise with sector initiatives.
• Draft letters, submissions and position papers for member approval; prepare newsletters.
• Be an active member of the Irish Medtech team and support strategy delivery.
• Carry out other duties as assigned by the Director of Irish Medtech.

Job description

The national and international context in which medtech businesses operate is changing significantly in relation to environmental sustainability. The Executive will work with Medtech member companies in relation to their sustainability agendas, in particular on technical policy and regulatory developments with a commercial impact on the Medtech & manufacturing sectors in Ireland.

The Executive will carry out the necessary tasks, in consultation with the Director of Irish Medtech, to ensure the objectives of the Medtech and /or manufacturing sectors are met across a range of environmental, OSH/EHS and chemicals issues. The Executive will also work as an effective member of the Irish Medtech team and support the delivery of the Association strategy.

The closing date for applications will be 3pm on 30th September.

ABOUT THE ROLE

• Secretariat to the sectoral sustainability & OSH/EHS groups. Ensure meetings are held regularly, appropriate minutes and papers are prepared and action plans implemented.
• Provide analysis and appropriate updates on environment and sustainability issues policy and regulation to the relevant groups; producing major reports and other outputs where appropriate. These issues may include (non-exhaustive):
• Climate Action Plan and implications for manufacturing companies
• Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD)
• European Green Deal
• Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM)
• Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR)
• REACH, Chemicals
• Support the Director of Irish Medtech with lobbying and representation activities on behalf of member companies on environment and sustainability issues at national and European level.
• Develop contacts and network with relevant policy and technical contacts in all relevant Government departments and state agencies.
• Liaison with relevant national regulators, European Sectoral Associations, the Ibec Energy and Environment Policy Committees and existing medtech/manufacturing sector initiatives
• Communication with member companies on a range of relevant policy issues
• Drafting of letters, submissions and position papers prior to circulation to members for approval
• Preparation of newsletters and content for digital communications
• Be an active member of the overall Irish Medtech Team ensuring the objectives of the sector are met
• Carry out other duties as identified and agreed with the Director of Irish Medtech that are in keeping with the overall strategy of the association, which will be expanded beyond environmental sustainability, OSH/EHS and chemicals.

Qualifications, skills and experience

Qualifications

• Primary degree – ideally in science or engineering
• Relevant post graduate qualifications an advantage

Knowledge

• Technical knowledge of environmental sustainability issues, relevant to the manufacturing sector
• Irish and EU regulatory environment for environmental issues and its implications for the manufacturing sector
• Business and sustainability issues facing the medtech and /or manufacturing sector in Ireland, EU and globally

Experience

• Minimum 3 years relevant post graduate experience (relevant – industry, regulatory or policy)
• Experience of working with teams, working groups, committees and operating at a high level
• Communications experience including public speaking; presentations; running meetings
• Ability to communicate succinctly and utilise a range of communication methods as appropriate
• Ability to work effectively with a range of stakeholders and manage the complexities involved
• Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills
• Excellent report writing and analytical skillsAbility to review and interpret complex information and present it to members in summary form
