Job summary

AtkinsRéalis in Cork is seeking an experienced Cost Estimator / Quantity Surveyor to support major pharmaceutical and life sciences capital projects for a leading global client. You will join our Project & Programme Management team delivering estimating, cost planning and commercial support across all project phases.

The role requires detailed cost estimation, take-offs from drawings and BIM, bid analysis and cost reporting, with interaction across clients, designers and contractors.

Qualifications

  • Experience in cost estimating, quantity surveying or cost management.
  • Experience on pharmaceutical/life sciences or mission critical projects a plus.
  • Strong understanding of construction costs and estimating methodologies.
  • Experience preparing conceptual, pre-tender and detailed estimates.
  • Ability to perform quantity take-offs and cost reconciliations.
  • Excellent analytical, commercial and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed cost estimates for pharma and life sciences projects.
  • Perform quantity take-offs from drawings, BIM models and docs.
  • Develop pre-tender Estimates and benchmark costs.
  • Review contractor and supplier pricing submissions.
  • Conduct bid analysis and reconcile tender returns against budgets.
  • Prepare cost plans and updates through the project lifecycle.
  • Source current pricing information from suppliers and databases.
  • Analyse costs to identify risks, opportunities and cost-saving measures.
  • Support budget development, forecasting and cost reporting.
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers and project teams.
  • Maintain estimating databases and cost libraries.
  • Prepare cost reconciliations and explain variances.
  • Participate in project meetings to provide commercial input.
  • Undertake site visits to review scope and progress.

Overview

AtkinsRéalis is seeking an experienced Cost Estimator / Quantity Surveyor to support the delivery of major pharmaceutical and life sciences capital investment projects for a leading global client in Cork.

This is an excellent opportunity to join our growing Project & Programme Management team and play a key role in the planning, estimating and cost management of complex capital projects. Working as part of an integrated Owner's Representative team, you will provide estimating, quantity surveying and commercial support across all project phases, helping to ensure robust cost planning, budget control and value-driven decision making.

As a trusted member of the project team, you will work closely with clients, designers, contractors and project managers to develop accurate estimates, validate contractor pricing and support the successful delivery of high-value pharmaceutical investments.

Your role
  • Prepare detailed cost estimates for pharmaceutical and life sciences capital projects.
  • Perform quantity take-offs from drawings, BIM models and design documentation.
  • Develop pre-tender estimates and benchmark costs against market intelligence.
  • Review and validate contractor and supplier pricing submissions.
  • Conduct bid analysis and reconcile tender returns against project budgets and scope requirements.
  • Prepare cost plans and estimate updates throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Source current pricing information from contractors, suppliers and market databases.
  • Analyse project costs and identify risks, opportunities and cost-saving measures.
  • Support budget development, forecasting and cost reporting activities.
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers and project teams to ensure alignment of scope and estimates.
  • Maintain estimating databases, cost libraries and benchmarking information.
  • Prepare cost reconciliations and explain variances between estimates and project outcomes.
  • Participate in project meetings and provide commercial input to support project decision making.
  • Undertake site visits as required to review project scope, progress and construction activities.
About You
Required Experience
  • Relevant years of experience in cost estimating, quantity surveying or commercial management.
  • Previous experience supporting pharmaceutical, biotechnology, life sciences, industrial, semiconductor or mission critical projects (Process & Mechanical Experience).
  • Strong understanding of construction costs, market pricing and estimating methodologies.
  • Experience preparing conceptual, pre-tender and detailed construction estimates.
  • Demonstrable experience undertaking quantity take-offs and cost reconciliations.
  • Excellent analytical, commercial and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Ability to work within multidisciplinary project teams in a fast-paced environment.
Technical Skills
  • Detailed cost estimating and cost planning (Mechanical & Process experience essential).
  • Quantity take-offs and measurement.
  • Tender analysis and bid evaluation.
  • Cost benchmarking and market analysis.
  • Budget development and forecasting.
  • Cost reporting and variance analysis.
  • Commercial risk assessment.
  • Value engineering and cost optimisation.
  • Experience with the following systems would be beneficial:
    • CostX.
    • BIM-based quantity take-off tools.
    • Microsoft Excel.
    • Power BI.
    • Microsoft Office Suite.
    • Adobe Acrobat.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Quantity Surveying, Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline.
  • Membership of RICS, SCSI, CIOB or equivalent professional body is desirable.
  • Relevant estimating, quantity surveying or cost management certifications would be advantageous.
