Job summary

The Estimating Administrator at Walls Construction Cork will support the Commercial and Estimating teams with accurate, timely administrative and document control across pre-contract activities. This role involves preparing and maintaining estimates, managing bid documents, coordinating subcontractor enquiries, and ensuring data is recorded consistently within company systems.

Qualifications

  • Requires experience in an estimating or commercial administrative role within construction, a main contractor, or consultancy environment.
  • Strong IT skills with Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook; experience with a Document Management System desirable.
  • Good numerical ability and attention to detail; experience with measurement and pricing information.
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills with ability to prioritise tasks to meet tight tender deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication; ability to liaise professionally with colleagues, subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Self-motivated, proactive and solutions-focused; able to work well in a team.
  • Knowledge of estimating software or cost databases and experience with procurement processes is advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Assist estimators in preparing cost estimates, take-offs, and bill of quantities in accordance with tender requirements.
  • Compile, format and maintain tender documents, pricing schedules and supporting information for submission.
  • Manage and maintain the Document Management System (DMS) and estimating libraries, ensuring files are up to date and recorded correctly.
  • Liaise with subcontractors and suppliers to obtain quotations, chase outstanding information, and log responses for review by the estimating team.
  • Prepare and update standard templates, cost databases and precedent documents to support consistent estimating practices.
  • Support the commercial team with correspondence, tender submissions (electronic and hard copy), and post-submission reporting.
  • Maintain accurate records of enquiries, clarifications, allowances and provisional sums, ensuring auditability of estimating decisions.
  • Provide administrative support for bid meetings, including minute-taking, issue logs and action tracking.
  • Ensure compliance with company procedures for health & safety, quality and data security in all administrative activities.

Role Overview
