Job summary

Uisce Éireann is seeking an Environment and Planning Solicitor to join the in-house Legal team, supporting environmental, land, planning and project delivery matters. Reporting to the Asset and Operations Legal Senior Manager, you will provide expert advice, draft and negotiate agreements, and help manage external advisers.

Based in Dublin or Cork, the role requires at least 6 years PQE in environmental/planning law, with experience in the water or utilities sector preferred.

Qualifications

• Qualified Solicitor or Barrister with at least 6 years' post-qualification experience.
• 7+ years' experience in the water, utilities or similar industries is desirable.
• Experience in Environmental and Planning law is essential.
• Highly motivated individual with ability to deliver senior-level legal advice.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide in-house legal advice on environmental, planning, land and project delivery matters, including transactional support.
• Advise on planning and environmental matters including water services legislation.
• Collaborate across departments to improve environmental planning processes and project delivery.
• Advise on statutory processes relating to land acquisition.
• Assist Dispute Resolution team with court applications and arbitrations.
• Identify potential legal risks and develop reporting structures.
• Draft, negotiate, review and update legal documents and agreements.
• Attend project meetings to coordinate with advisers on contracts and risks.
• Advise on regulatory matters and environmental planning issues.
• Monitor legislation and case-law; promote legal awareness and when to seek input.
• Provide day-to-day support to Chief Legal Officer with specialists.
• Manage external legal advisers as required.
• Maintain CPD through training and seminars.
• Support strategic risk mitigation reviews.
• Contribute to board papers and legal opinions.
• Lead Environmental, Land & Projects Legal function.
• Act as escalation point for the team on planning/environmental matters.
• Drive continuous improvement in EL&P Legal.
• Collaborate with other Uisce Éireann Legal teams.
