Environmental Engineer

Location: Dublin area, Ireland

Sector: Energy

Role type: Permanent

Salary: €40,000 - €50,000 per year.

Full Irish work rights required.

We are currently supporting a major organisation within the energy sector with the appointment of an Environmental Engineer to join an established operational site in the Dublin area. This is an excellent opportunity for an environmental professional with experience gained within power generation, energy, utilities, manufacturing, process industries or another regulated industrial environment. Working closely with operational, maintenance and HSE teams, you will play an important role in maintaining high standards of environmental compliance across the facility. The position combines regulatory compliance, environmental monitoring and reporting with practical, site-based environmental management and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

As Environmental Engineer, your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting ongoing compliance with relevant Irish and EU environmental legislation, environmental permits and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitoring the environmental impact of site operations, including air emissions, water and effluent discharge, waste, noise and resource consumption.
  • Preparing, coordinating and supporting environmental reports and submissions to relevant regulatory authorities.
  • Working with environmental monitoring programmes and reviewing operational and environmental performance data.
  • Carrying out environmental inspections, audits and compliance reviews across the facility.
  • Supporting investigations into environmental incidents, complaints and non-conformances, including the development and implementation of appropriate corrective actions.
  • Providing practical environmental guidance to operational and maintenance personnel.
  • Supporting the site's Environmental Management System (EMS) and its ongoing development in line with ISO 14001 principles.
  • Liaising with environmental regulators, specialist consultants, contractors and other external stakeholders where required.
  • Identifying opportunities to improve environmental performance, including emissions reduction, waste minimisation, energy efficiency and wider sustainability initiatives.
About You
  • A degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Chemical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • Previous environmental compliance experience within a regulated operational environment such as power generation, energy, utilities, manufacturing, process engineering or heavy industry.
  • A good working knowledge of environmental legislation, permitting and compliance requirements within Ireland and/or the EU.
  • Experience of environmental monitoring, data analysis, compliance reporting and auditing.
  • Familiarity with environmental regulatory submissions and online reporting systems, ideally including experience interacting with the Irish EPA.
  • Knowledge of ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems.
  • An understanding of environmental permitting frameworks and the Industrial Emissions Directive (IED).
  • Experience relating to emissions monitoring, waste, water or other environmental aspects associated with industrial operations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret environmental information and identify areas for improvement.
  • The confidence to work collaboratively with engineering, operations, maintenance and HSE teams.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to engage effectively with external regulators and specialist environmental partners.
  • Competence with Microsoft Office and relevant environmental reporting systems.
The Opportunity

This role offers the opportunity to work within a large-scale operational energy environment where environmental compliance and sustainable performance are integral to day-to-day operations. You will work across both technical and operational functions, giving you exposure to a broad range of environmental matters while contributing directly to the site's ongoing environmental performance and continuous improvement. If your background is within environmental engineering or environmental compliance and you have experience working in a regulated industrial, energy or power environment, we would be interested in hearing from you.
