Job summary

Design Build Search is seeking an Environment, Health & Safety Manager to lead safety and environmental strategy during pre-construction for large international projects in Ireland. The role collaborates with design teams, estimators and clients to embed EHS considerations in planning and procurement, ensuring compliant, sustainable solutions.

The ideal candidate has NEBOSH Diploma and 5+ years in construction/industrial settings, with strong stakeholder management and knowledge of global safety

Qualifications

  • Degree qualification in Health & Safety, Environmental Management, Engineering, Construction Management or related discipline.
  • Professional EHS qualification (NEBOSH Diploma, Level 8/9 qualification or equivalent).
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in construction, engineering or industrial project environments.
  • Experience supporting large-scale construction projects during pre-construction and planning phases.
  • Strong knowledge of international health and safety legislation and standards.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management and influencing skills.

Safety Manager - Kildare - Construction Industry

Reporting to the head of operations this Environment & Health & Safety Manager will provide strategic health, safety and environmental leadership during the pre-construction phase of major international construction projects. The role will support the development of safe, sustainable and compliant project solutions across pharmaceutical, logistics, industrial and data centre developments.


Working closely with Pre-Construction Managers, Design Teams, Estimators, Project Directors, Clients and Supply Chain Partners, the EHS Manager will ensure that health, safety and environmental considerations are fully integrated into project planning, design, procurement and delivery strategies before construction commences.


Key Responsibilities

Health & Safety Leadership

  • Champion a proactive safety culture throughout the pre-construction process.
  • Provide EHS input into bid submissions, tender evaluations and project planning activities.
  • Review project designs to identify and mitigate construction and operational safety risks.
  • Support the implementation of Design Risk Management and Prevention Through Design principles.
  • Develop project-specific EHS strategies, objectives and plans.
  • Ensure compliance with local legislation, client requirements and company standards across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Participate in design reviews and constructability workshops.

Pre-Construction & Project Support

  • Identify high-risk activities and ensure appropriate controls are considered during planning.
  • Contribute to logistics planning, site layout reviews and temporary works risk assessments.
  • Assist with contractor and supply chain prequalification processes.
  • Evaluate EHS implications of proposed construction methods and programme strategies.

Environmental & Sustainability

  • Advise project teams on environmental compliance requirements.
  • Support the integration of sustainable construction practices into project planning.
  • Promote waste reduction, carbon reduction and environmental protection initiatives.
  • Assist in achieving client sustainability objectives and project certifications where required.

Client & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Act as the EHS representative during client meetings, design reviews and project kick-off activities.
  • Build strong working relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors and internal stakeholders.
  • Provide expert advice on EHS best practice throughout the project lifecycle.

Governance & Continuous Improvement

  • Monitor industry developments, legislation and emerging best practices.
  • Contribute to the development and enhancement of company EHS policies and procedures.
  • Analyse trends, lessons learned and project feedback to drive continuous improvement.
  • Support incident investigations and the communication of lessons learned across the business.
