Job summary

Freudenberg Medical Ireland Ltd. seeks an Engineering Technician at Spiddal to diagnose equipment issues and implement improvements to manufacturing performance.

You will support changeovers with SMED, perform preventive maintenance, manage spares, and work with production teams to maximise uptime and safety.

Qualifications

• NFQ Level 6 qualification in Mechanical/Manufacturing/Mechatronics or Electrical Engineering.
• Lean Six Sigma certification is desirable.
• Hands-on approach to diagnosing and troubleshooting manufacturing equipment issues.
• Strong problem-solving skills with ability to investigate technical issues.
• Excellent attention to detail and communication skills across teams.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose equipment issues, identify root causes and implement permanent improvements.
• Support changeovers with SMED and optimize downtime.
• Carry out and continuously improve preventative maintenance to maximise reliability.
• Manage spare parts inventory and support process improvements.
• Collaborate with production teams to keep operations safe and efficient.
• Train Production Operators in the correct use of process equipment.

Engineering Technician

Responsibilities

• Make a real impact on manufacturing performance by diagnosing technical issues, identifying root causes and implementing practical, permanent solutions.
• Take ownership of equipment performance metrics, including OEE, yield and downtime, ensuring critical issues are escalated and effective recovery plans are put in place.
• Support equipment and product changeovers, identifying opportunities to reduce changeover times through SMED and continuous improvement.
• Carry out and continuously improve preventative maintenance programmes to maximise equipment reliability and minimise downtime.
• Manage spare parts inventory and design jigs and fixtures to support manufacturing requirements and improve existing processes.
• Work closely with production teams to prioritise daily and weekly activities, keeping manufacturing running safely and efficiently.
• Train and support Production Operators in the correct use of process equipment and product specifications, helping to build technical capability across the team.
• Take a proactive approach to health and safety, ensuring safe systems of work are followed, equipment safety features are maintained and hazards are promptly reported.
• Support environmental and energy performance by identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce energy consumption and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

• Previous trade experience, such as Toolmaker, Fitter, Electrician or Mechanic, or an NFQ Level 6 qualification in a technical discipline such as Mechanical, Manufacturing, Mechatronics or Electrical Engineering.
• Mechanical, Electrical or Lean Six Sigma certification is highly desirable.
• Experience with Grinding, Moulding, EDM and/or Laser processes would be a distinct advantage.
• A hands-on approach to diagnosing, troubleshooting and resolving manufacturing equipment issues.
• Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to investigate technical issues systematically and implement effective solutions.
• Excellent attention to detail and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across production and technical teams.
• A flexible and adaptable approach, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a busy manufacturing environment.
• A positive, enthusiastic attitude and a willingness to share knowledge and support others.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word and Excel.
