AECOM is hiring an ambitious Electrical Engineer with HV project experience to join the Transmission & Distribution team in Ireland. The role supports large-scale grid connections, renewable integration, and data centre links within a hybrid work model.

Based in the Republic of Ireland, you will contribute to design, owners' engineer duties, and technical specifications across Ireland/UK and overseas, with opportunities for career development through AECOM University and practice networks.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor level or higher degree in electrical engineering with emphasis on HV
  • Experience on HV projects in utilities or developers needed
  • Ability to author technical reports and present designs clearly
  • Experience as designer or project engineer on HV substations or related projects
  • Knowledge of substation control systems, transformers, GIS/AIS switchgear desirable
  • Chartered status or active progression toward it preferred
  • Full driving license and willingness to site-visit when required

Responsibilities

  • Create primary plant layouts for HV substations
  • Specify equipment for HV plant and related gear
  • Provide engineering design input to major infrastructure projects
  • Act as Owners' Engineer on HV substation/cable and OHL projects
  • Contribute HV design input to renewables like storage, solar, hydro and wind projects
  • Provide professional services to clients in Ireland/UK and overseas

AECOM is looking to hire an ambitious Electrical Engineer with HV Project experience to join our growing Transmission & Distribution team based in the Republic of Ireland. The need arises from major growth in our work for traditional and non-traditional end-markets including the connection of renewable generation to the transmission system to meet the government's 2030 targets and the connection of hyperscale data centres to the transmission system.

Our Transmission & Distribution business delivers project management, design and owners engineer services for electrical power projects at transmission and distribution voltages across Ireland and across the world. The focus of the team is large-scale grid infrastructure, grid connections, and private networks. The work can be varied and there will be a lot of opportunity for you to learn and develop your career within this role, working on major projects such as our EirGrid framework:

Here’s what you'll do:
  • Primary plant layouts for HV substations
  • Equipment specifications for HV Plant and associated equipment
  • Providing engineering design input to major infrastructure projects
  • Owners' Engineer role on HV substation/Cable and OHL projects
  • Providing HV design input to renewable energy projects e.g., Battery storage, Solar, Hydro and Wind generation
  • Provide professional services to clients in Ireland/UK and overseas

Qualifications

Here’s what we’re looking for:
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Experience of working on HV projects
  • Experience of working with major utilities or developers
  • Experience as a designer or as project engineer
  • Experience of developing specifications for substation control systems, transformers, GIS, and AIS switchgear
  • Ability to work flexibly across multiple projects
  • Fluency in English
  • Experience in technical report writing
  • Full driving license and access to a personal vehicle as site visits may be required as part of this role
  • Ideally have experience of working on multi-discipline engineering projects
  • Ideally hold Chartered accreditation or working toward status
  • Ideally have consultancy experience
  • Ideally have experience in reviewing review detailed designs & witnessing construction site activities
