Job summary

AECOM is seeking a Principal Engineer in Cork, Ireland, to join their Transmission & Distribution team. This position focuses on primary plant design for high voltage electrical power projects, including large-scale infrastructure and grid connections. The successful candidate will have a degree in Electrical Engineering, relevant experience in the energy sector, and strong project management skills. Qualifications

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Previous experience in the energy sector with consultancy, contractor, or utility.
  • Client experience with National Grid, ESB, EirGrid, or similar utilities in the UK or Ireland.
  • Extensive FEED design and detailed design experience.
  • Knowledge of HV infrastructure at concept and FEED stages.
  • Team player with client-facing skills and ability to work on multiple projects.
  • Full driver's license.
  • Project management experience is advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Design primary plant layouts for HV substations.
  • Specify equipment for HV Plant and related equipment.
  • Provide engineering design input to major infrastructure projects.
  • Develop optimum cable routes during project planning.
  • Develop specifications with specialists and partners.

Join our dynamic and multi-disciplinary Transmission & Distribution team as a primary plant focused Principal Engineer. Our Transmission & Distribution business delivers HV design for electrical power projects at transmission and distribution voltage levels. The focus of this role is primary plant design for large-scale infrastructure, grid connections, and private networks at voltage levels normally between 110 kV to 400 kV. Typical projects include feasibility, optioneering, FEED, detailed design and design assurance on existing or brand-new substations and other infrastructure.

The work can be varied and there will be a lot of opportunity for you to develop your career within this role, using your expertise to contribute to the success of major projects such as our EirGrid framework:

Here’s what you’ll do:

  • Primary plant layouts for HV substations
  • Equipment specifications for HV Plant and associated equipment
  • Providing engineering design input to major infrastructure projects
  • Project Development/Pre-construction: Development of optimum cable routes considering length, thermal conditions, land use
  • Development of specifications with technology specific specialists and external project partners.
  • Tender evaluations, assessment and Design Assurance activities.
  • Tender specification development.
  • Design assurance of tender return documentation, during tender evaluation and supplier meetings.
  • Construction: Reviewing supplier technical designs. Undertaking manufacturing assurance audits, attending FAT and providing commissioning support and fault resolution support

Qualifications

Ready to push the limits of what’s possible?

Here\'s what we’re looking for:

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Previous experience with consultancy, contractor or utility in the energy sector
  • Client experience with National Grid, ESB, EirGrid, SHET, SSE, SPT or any other transmission utility or developer in UK or Ireland
  • Extensive experience as FEED designer, detailed design or owner’s engineer role
  • Experience designing the HV infrastructure at concept and FEED design stages
  • Experience in detailed design, design assurance and owners engineer would be advantageous
  • Understanding of electrical AC HV Plant infrastructure and equipment both AIS and GIS
  • Good team player and have a client-focused mindset customer facing skills
  • Ability to work flexibly across multiple projects
  • Full driver licence
  • Ideally project management experience (incl. budget, time and quality)
  • Experience of managing multi-discipline engineering projects
