Job summary

Sigmar Recruitment is recruiting for an established Irish electrical contractor in Dublin for an Electrical Design Engineer. You will support the design and delivery of building-services packages from tender through installation and handover, collaborating with Project Managers, BIM personnel, site teams, consultants, suppliers and clients.

You will develop designs for commercial, industrial, healthcare, education, residential and public-sector projects, ensure coordination with BIM models,

Qualifications

• Degree or equivalent in Electrical/Building Services Engineering.
• Strong knowledge of LV distribution, lighting, fire alarm and related systems.
• Ability to perform cable-sizing, voltage-drop, load calculations.
• Experience reading specs, schematics and drawings.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD and electrical design software.

Responsibilities

• Develop electrical designs for commercial, industrial, healthcare, education, residential and public-sector projects.
• Design LV distribution, lighting, emergency lighting, fire-alarm, security, access-control, data and communications systems.
• Complete load assessments, cable-sizing, voltage-drop, fault-level, discrimination and containment calculations.
• Prepare electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, layouts, schedules and technical documentation.
• Review employer requirements, consultant designs, specifications and tender information.
• Develop designs from tender stage into coordinated construction and installation packages.
• Work with BIM teams to review models, resolve clashes and coordinate with other disciplines.
• Prepare submittals, equipment schedules and material approval documentation.
• Liaise with suppliers and manufacturers regarding equipment selection and compliance.
• Identify value-engineering opportunities without compromising safety or quality.
• Respond to RFIs and design changes during construction.
• Provide technical support to Project Managers, supervisors and site teams.
• Attend design-team, coordination and client meetings.
• Review contractor and vendor information for compliance.
• Support testing, commissioning, snagging and handover activities.
• Produce as-built drawings, O&M information and final project documentation.
• Ensure designs comply with Irish electrical standards and Building Regulations.

Due to continued growth, they are now seeking an Electrical Design Engineer to join their expanding engineering team in Dublin.

Your New Role

As Electrical Design Engineer, you will support the design and delivery of electrical building-services packages from tender and pre-construction through installation, commissioning and final handover.

This is a contractor-side position offering direct exposure to the construction process. You will work closely with Project Managers, BIM personnel, site teams, consultants, suppliers and clients to ensure designs are technically compliant, fully coordinated and practical to install.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Developing electrical designs for commercial, industrial, healthcare, education, residential and public-sector projects.
• Designing LV distribution, lighting, emergency lighting, fire-alarm, security, access-control, data and communications systems.
• Completing load assessments, cable-sizing, voltage-drop, fault-level, discrimination and containment calculations.
• Preparing electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, layouts, schedules and technical documentation.
• Reviewing employer requirements, consultant designs, specifications and tender information.
• Developing designs from tender stage into coordinated construction and installation packages.
• Working closely with BIM teams to review models, resolve clashes and coordinate electrical services with other disciplines.
• Preparing technical submittals, equipment schedules and material approval documentation.
• Liaising with suppliers and manufacturers regarding equipment selection and technical compliance.
• Identifying value-engineering opportunities without compromising safety, quality or performance.
• Responding to RFIs, technical queries and design changes throughout construction.
• Providing technical support to Project Managers, supervisors and site teams.
• Attending design-team, coordination and client meetings.
• Reviewing contractor and vendor information for compliance with the project requirements.
• Supporting testing, commissioning, snagging and handover activities.
• Producing as-built drawings, O&M information and final project documentation.
• Ensuring designs comply with Irish electrical standards, Building Regulations and client specifications.

What You’ll Need to Succeed

• A degree or recognised qualification in Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or a related discipline.
• Strong knowledge of LV distribution, lighting, emergency lighting, fire alarm and associated electrical systems.
• The ability to complete cable-sizing, voltage-drop and electrical load calculations.
• Experience reading and interpreting specifications, schematics and electrical drawings.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD and electrical design software such as Amtech, Trimble ProDesign or similar.
• Experience with Revit, Navisworks or DIALux would be advantageous.
• A good understanding of Irish electrical standards and Building Regulations.
• Strong technical coordination and problem-solving skills.
• The ability to communicate effectively with clients, consultants, suppliers and construction teams.
• Previous experience with an electrical or M&E contractor or consultancy is essential.
• An electrical trade background combined with engineering or design experience would also be considered.
