Job summary

HRM Search Partners is sourcing an EHS Lead for a leading global organisation in Rathdrum, Co. Wicklow. The role covers two sites with periodic attendance at a second site in West Dublin, providing senior EHS leadership within a highly regulated manufacturing environment.

The ideal candidate will drive environment, health and safety programmes, risk management and continuous improvement, while shaping EHS strategy and ensuring regulatory compliance across both locations.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years' EHS professional experience in API or chemical manufacturing.
  • Strong knowledge of Irish environmental, health and safety legislation and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience with Seveso and/or IPPC/IEL-regulated environments is advantageous.
  • Proven leadership, people development and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Track record of driving change and continuous improvement in manufacturing settings.

Responsibilities

  • Define and lead EHS strategy across two regulated manufacturing sites.
  • Ensure compliance with Irish EHS legislation and global standards.
  • Implement and continuously improve the EHS Management System.
  • Lead process safety activities including hazard analysis and risk management.
  • Manage relations with Irish regulatory agencies and internal stakeholders.
  • Develop and mentor the EHS team and embed accountability culture.
  • Plan and support EHS audits, inspections and remediation efforts.
  • Collaborate with Site Leadership, Engineering and Manufacturing to embed EHS into operations.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Science, EHS or related discipline
Master's degree (advantageous)
EHS leadership and stakeholder management
Regulatory compliance (Irish EHS law)
Process safety and hazard analysis (HAZOP)

Job description

Our client is a leading global organisation operating within the API manufacturing sector. They are seeking to appoint an experienced EHS Lead to provide leadership across two manufacturing sites in Ireland. Primarily based in Rathdrum, Co. Wicklow, with periodic attendance at a second site in West Dublin, this is a senior EHS leadership position with being a member of the overall Leadership Team within a complex, highly regulated manufacturing environment.

The Role

The EHS Lead will have responsibility for Environment, Health and Safety across both sites, ensuring safe, compliant and reliable manufacturing operations. Operating as a hands-on leader, the successful candidate will provide strategic direction while remaining closely involved in the delivery of EHS programmes, risk management and continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Leading EHS strategy and operations across two regulated pharmaceutical manufacturing sites.
  • Ensuring ongoing compliance with Irish EHS legislation, regulatory requirements and internal global standards.
  • Implementing, maintaining and continuously improving the EHS Management System.
  • Leading process safety and risk management activities across the sites, including hazard identification and assessment.
  • Managing relationships with relevant Irish regulatory agencies and supporting a strong compliance position across both sites.
  • Leading and developing the EHS function, creating a culture of accountability, continuous improvement and professional development.
  • Planning for and supporting internal and external EHS audits, inspections and associated remediation activity.
  • Partnering closely with Site Leadership, Engineering, Manufacturing and other functions to embed EHS into operational decision-making.
  • Defining EHS training requirements and ensuring appropriate capability is developed across the organisation.
  • Managing external EHS resources and maintaining effective oversight of EHS budgets and expenditure.
  • Championing continuous improvement and sharing best practice across the sites and wider global EHS network.
The Person

The successful candidate will be an established EHS leader with significant experience operating within API, chemical or similarly complex regulated manufacturing environments. They will combine strong technical EHS expertise with the leadership and influencing capability required to operate effectively across a matrixed global organisation.

  • Minimum 10 years' relevant EHS professional and supervisory experience within API or chemical manufacturing environments.
  • Strong knowledge of Irish environmental, health and safety legislation and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience within a Seveso and/or IPPC/IEL-regulated environment would be a significant advantage.
  • Strong process safety expertise, including experience with hazard analysis techniques such as HAZOP, process hazard analysis and What-If assessments.
  • Knowledge and experience across environmental management and industrial hygiene.
  • Demonstrated experience leading, developing and motivating teams within a complex operational environment.
  • Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills, with the ability to work effectively with senior leadership and cross-functional teams.
  • A track record of driving change, operational excellence and continuous improvement within manufacturing.
  • A bachelor's degree in Engineering, Science, EHS or a related discipline is required; a master's degree would be advantageous.
  • Additional experience across plant engineering, manufacturing, production or maintenance would be beneficial.
