Job summary

OCE O'Connor Engineering in Ireland's Munster region seeks a skilled Structural Steel/Sheet Metal designer. You will model components and assemblies in SolidWorks, read CAD data, and prepare fabrication drawings for laser, plasma, and tube profiling equipment.

You will manage project costings, procurement, and inventory, coordinate with workshops, and ensure EN1090 EXC 3/4 compliance. Minimum 2–3 years in a similar role with fabrication experience is required.

Qualifications

• 2–3 years’ experience in a similar role.
• Hands-on experience with structural steel and sheet metal fabrication.
• Proficiency with EN1090 EXC 3/4.
• Experience with MS Office for project management.
• Ability to read CAD data and produce fabrication drawings.

Responsibilities

• Design components, machines & structures in 3D using SolidWorks.
• Interpret CAD data and communicate deliverables from project kick-off to handover.
• Read and revise project BOQs and BOMs.
• Breakdown 3D models and 2D drawings for manufacture.
• Produce fabrication drawings for steel weldments and machined parts.
• Reverse engineer parts and perform site surveys.
• Material procurement and part inventory management aligned to workshop schedule.
• Part nesting for Laser, Plasma, and Tube Laser machines.
• Schedule workflow of laser/profiled/machined components with workshop plan.
• Manage moving parts across in-house and external teams through project lifecycle.
• Manage project costings and procurement, and report to accounts.
• Carry out EN1090 EXC 3 & 4 compliant tasks.

(Structural Steel / Metal Fabrication Background) Full Time-Perm

Fluent English with strong communication skills.

Working knowledge of Structural Steel/Sheetmetal fabrication & manufacturing workshops.

Proficiency in Solidworks modelling & detailing, Nesting software, project procurement & costing.

Ability to work on own initiative with a structured work ethic.

Design of components, machines & structures in 3D modelling Solidworks.

Interpret incoming project cad data & communicate deliverables with clients from project kick off to final handover.

Read and revise project specific Bill of quantities and Bom’s.

Breakdown 3D models & 2D dwgs/pdfs using design for manufacture methodology.

Produce fabrication/construction dwgs for structural steel weldments, machined components

Reverse engineering of parts and site surveys

and Sheetmetal fabricated parts via Solidworks models/dwgs/dxf.

Material procurement and part inventory management in line with workshop schedule.

Part nesting for Laser, Plasma & Tube Laser machines

Schedule workflow of laser/profiled/machined components in line with workshop schedule.

Manage all moving parts/components both inhouse and external throughout project lifecycle.

Manage project costings throughout project lifecycle, (procurement, labour and material).

Communicate project costings/procurement to accounts team.

Carry out all task and duties in accordance with EN1090 EXC 3 & 4

Minimum 2-3 years’ experience working in a similar role.

Hands on experience of structural steel and sheet metal fabrication.

Working knowledge of associated workshop machinery/equipment

and related tasks required to support workshop team.

Solidworks, AutoCAD, Nesting software & sheet metal profiling CNC machines.

Experience with Civil/Agri plant & equipment a distinct advantage.

Experience with EN1090 EXC 3 or 4

Experience with project management via Microsoft Office Suite.

8 hour shift

Monday to Friday

Salary:

Salary: €45k-€55k – (Performance based review on-going)

Pay:

Pay: €45,000.00-€55,000.00 per year
