Job summary

Novax Recruitment Ltd is representing a growing structural steel specialist seeking a Structural Steel Estimator in Waterford. You will join the commercial team to turn complex technical information into competitive tenders for fabrication and erection projects across commercial, industrial, pharmaceutical, data centres and infrastructure.

Qualifications

• Previous experience estimating structural steel fabrication projects.
• Experience within structural steel or a closely related construction environment.
• Strong ability to interpret structural drawings and engineering documentation.
• Experience preparing detailed tender submissions.
• Strong analytical, numerical and organisational skills.
• Good commercial awareness and an understanding of project costs.
• Ability to manage several tenders simultaneously while working to tight deadlines.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Full driving licence and eligibility to work in Ireland.

Responsibilities

• Prepare accurate and competitive estimates for structural steel fabrication and erection projects.
• Review architectural and structural drawings alongside project specifications.
• Analyse tender documentation to identify project scope, risks and commercial opportunities.
• Produce detailed material take-offs and schedules.
• Obtain and assess quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.
• Liaise with engineers, project managers and clients throughout the tender process.
• Prepare detailed tender submissions while meeting demanding deadlines.
• Attend pre-tender and post-tender meetings where required.
• Support value engineering to identify commercially viable solutions.
• Maintain accurate records of estimates, pricing and tender documentation.
• Support project handovers following successful contract awards.
• Monitor market conditions and material pricing to keep tenders competitive.

Structural Steel Estimator

Location: Waterford, Ireland

The Company

The steelwork behind major commercial, industrial and infrastructure projects starts with an estimating team capable of turning complex technical information into commercially sound tenders.

This established structural steel specialist delivers fabrication and erection projects across sectors including commercial, industrial, pharmaceutical, data centres and infrastructure, with a reputation for engineering quality, reliable project delivery and strong client relationships.

As the business continues to grow, they are looking for an experienced Structural Steel Estimator to join their commercial team and play a key role in securing new projects.

The Role

You'll be involved from the first review of the tender through to submission, working closely with clients, engineers, architects, suppliers and the internal project delivery team.

You will:

• Prepare accurate and competitive estimates for structural steel fabrication and erection projects.
• Review architectural and structural drawings alongside project specifications.
• Analyse tender documentation to identify project scope, risks and commercial opportunities.

What They're Looking For

You should have:

Desirable Experience

It would be advantageous if you also have:

• Experience using estimating software.
• Knowledge of structural steel fabrication processes and erection methodologies.
• Understanding of procurement and supply chain management.
• Experience working with BIM or Tekla drawings.
• A third-level qualification in Quantity Surveying, Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline.
