Job description

Brief Description

Data Manager

Reporting directly to the Group Head of Marketing, the Data Manager will be responsible for ensuring the Tricel Group has a single, trusted source of commercial and marketing data to support decision-making across the business.

The role will lead the definition, governance, quality, and integrity of business data, ensuring that key commercial and marketing metrics are clearly defined, consistently applied, and accurately reported. The Data Manager will have overall responsibility for the definitions of measures used in commercial and marketing reporting and maintaining the official record of those definitions. They will oversee data quality across key systems, including CRM platforms, marketing systems, and sales pipeline records, ensuring information is accurate, complete, and reliable.

The successful candidate will own the reporting and dashboard environment, including the platforms used to deliver management information across the Group. They will be responsible for data preparation and integration between systems to support reporting requirements and will provide analysis and insights that support commercial and marketing decision-making. In addition, the role will ensure appropriate data governance, data protection, and access controls are in place for all data held within the function.

Working closely with the Data Specialist, who is responsible for building and maintaining reports, dashboards, and data models, the Data Manager will ensure common definitions and governance standards are applied consistently across all reporting. This separation of responsibilities ensures the organisation can rely on a single version of the truth, with business metrics that are clearly defined, documented, and trusted.

Responsibilities
  • Define, document, and govern all commercial and marketing reporting measures, ensuring clear ownership, stakeholder approval, version control, and consistent application across the business, while maintaining an auditable record of metric definitions, changes, data sources, calculation methodologies, and impacts on historical reporting.
  • Maintain and govern a single, authoritative source of business data by documenting data sources, system ownership, and reporting lineage, ensuring each measure has one agreed definition and escalating inconsistencies or competing versions to stakeholders rather than resolving them outside the established governance process.
  • Establish and monitor data quality standards across key business records by defining ownership, validation requirements, and quality criteria, while proactively identifying, reporting, and resolving issues relating to data completeness, accuracy, duplication, and currency.
  • Design entry and validation rules that prevent poor data being created, in preference to correcting it afterwards.
  • Establish and enforce data quality standards across key systems by defining ownership, required fields, validation rules, and quality criteria, while proactively monitoring data integrity, reporting on quality issues, and driving corrective action to ensure accurate, complete, and reliable business data.
  • Retire reports that are not used. An unused report is maintenance cost and a source of contradictory numbers.
  • Ensure every published report states its source, its definition reference and the date the data was refreshed.
  • Be answerable for the accuracy of published numbers, including a correction process when a figure is found to be wrong.
  • Specify and maintain the data flows between systems for reporting purposes, working within the demarcation agreed with group IT.
  • Document, monitor, and maintain all data integration and reporting workflows, ensuring clear visibility of data lineage, transformation processes, schedules, and dependencies, while proactively identifying and resolving issues to ensure reliable and uninterrupted reporting.
  • Assess the data implications of any new system or platform before it is adopted, and state them.
  • Provide analysis to support commercial and marketing decisions, stating method, assumptions and confidence.
  • Provide objective, evidence-based analysis that clearly distinguishes between data, insights, and assumptions, enabling informed decision-making while ensuring business questions are answered accurately, transparently, and without bias.
  • Lead, develop, and oversee the Data Specialist by setting priorities, maintaining quality standards, reviewing outputs, managing reporting demand, and fostering capability growth to ensure the efficient delivery of accurate, high-quality data and reporting solutions.
  • Maintain the access model on least privilege, with named accounts and removal of access when people or contracts end.
  • Maintain the record of personal data held by the function, its lawful basis and its retention period, and apply retention in practice.
  • Support data subject requests within the group process.
  • Assess and record the data protection implications of new flows, tools and reports before they go live.
  • Apply the group AI Usage Policy, including the data classification rules governing what data may be placed into which tool.
  • Any other duties as request by management.
Candidate Profile
  • Significant experience in Data Management, Data Governance, Business Intelligence, Analytics, or Reporting Leadership.
  • Experience establishing and maintaining data governance frameworks, reporting standards, and metric definitions.
  • Strong understanding of data quality management, data lineage, master data principles, and reporting controls.
  • Experience with CRM systems, marketing platforms, data warehouses, reporting tools, and dashboard technologies.
  • Knowledge of data integration, ETL processes, and data architecture concepts.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to provide evidence-based recommendations.
  • Experience managing stakeholders and influencing decisions across multiple business functions.
  • Experience leading, coaching, and developing technical or analytical team members.
  • Good understanding of GDPR, data protection requirements, access controls, and information governance.
  • Strong project management and organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
