We're recruiting for a major critical infrastructure organisation that is building out a Cyber Recovery Technology Programme. They need an independent technical leader to own the architecture and assure the whole programme.
The role
You'll be the trusted technical advisor for the programme, defining and governing the target cyber recovery architecture and making sure every workstream and supplier comes together as one cohesive, end-to-end recovery capability. This is an independent challenge and assurance role, working alongside internal technology teams, business stakeholders and third-party suppliers.
What you'll do
- Act as technical architecture lead for the programme, owning the target cyber recovery architecture
- Set architecture principles, standards, reference architectures and design patterns for cyber recovery and operational resilience
- Review and challenge technical designs, assumptions and supplier proposals
- Identify architectural risks, technical debt, hidden dependencies and single points of failure
- Validate recovery strategies, operating models and technology roadmaps
- Sit on Design Authority and technical governance forums
- Assess recovery runbooks and methodologies, and support recovery testing, simulation exercises and readiness reviews
- Make sure solutions align with agreed RTOs and RPOs
- Support procurement, technology evaluations and supplier selection
- Provide architecture leadership across immutable backup platforms, cyber recovery vaults, clean room environments and application recovery
What we're looking for
- Enterprise, solution, infrastructure or cyber recovery architecture background
- Proven experience designing and governing cyber recovery, DR or operational resilience programmes
- Experience leading Design Authority, architecture governance and technical assurance
- Track record managing architecture across multi-supplier programmes
- Strong grounding in recovery architectures, cyber resilience and operational resilience frameworks
- Identity and access expertise: Active Directory, MFA, PAM and recovery authentication models
- VMware vSphere, enterprise infrastructure, storage and virtualisation
- Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle RAC and enterprise database recovery
- Immutable backup, cyber recovery vaults, air-gapped recovery and clean room environments
- Experience supporting recovery testing, cyber exercises and readiness assessments
- Strong risk and dependency analysis, plus excellent stakeholder management and documentation skills
Highly desirable
- Experience in critical infrastructure, transport, utilities, financial services or NIS2-regulated environments
- Red Hat OpenShift / Kubernetes recovery architectures
- Microsoft 365, Azure and hybrid cloud recovery models
- TOGAF, SABSA, CISSP, Azure Architect, VMware or equivalent certifications
- ITIL, change management and continual improvement
