Job summary

Ascend Project Management is seeking an experienced CSA Construction Superintendent to lead day-to-day civil, structural and architectural construction activities at a major biopharmaceutical expansion in South Dublin.

The successful candidate will coordinate contractors, manage interfaces between disciplines and ensure work fronts are safe, compliant and progressing to plan, from readiness through handover to commissioning teams.

Qualifications

  • Relevant qualification in civil/structural/architecture/construction management preferred.
  • At least ten years' construction experience on major capital projects.
  • Experience overseeing civil, structural and architectural works in superintendent roles.
  • Proven ability to manage principal contractors and multiple subcontractors on a large site.
  • Strong ability to interpret drawings, specifications and schedules.
  • Proven leadership with strong communication and stakeholder management.
  • EPCM or engineering consultancy/project-delivery experience is advantageous.
  • Pharma/biopharma or regulated high-spec construction experience preferred.
  • Previous Ireland project delivery experience beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Provide senior day-to-day field leadership across CSA construction activities.
  • Coordinate principal contractor and specialist subcontractors across buildings and fronts.
  • Drive safe execution per EHS procedures and plans.
  • Monitor progress against master programme and look-ahead schedules.
  • Confirm readiness with design, access, materials and permits.
  • Coordinate interfaces between CSA, mechanical, electrical, HVAC, process and external works.
  • Lead field coordination meetings and planning sessions.
  • Review contractor performance and recovery actions.
  • Support RFIs, technical queries, design changes and site issues.
  • Oversee inspections and ensure conformance to drawings and specs.
  • Maintain visibility of field constraints and safety/quality concerns.
  • Lead snagging, punch-list and turnover documentation.
  • Facilitate structured handover to commissioning and client teams.
  • Provide progress, risk, and recovery reporting.

Job Description: CSA Construction Superintendent

We are seeking an experienced Civil, Structural and Architectural Superintendent to provide senior field leadership on a major biopharmaceutical facility expansion in South Dublin.

As a senior member of the site-based project delivery team, the successful candidate will oversee day-to-day CSA construction across assigned areas. The position will be responsible for coordinating contractors, maintaining safe and efficient work fronts, resolving multidisciplinary field issues and driving construction from readiness through completion and handover.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide senior day-to-day field leadership across civil, structural and architectural construction activities.
  • Coordinate the principal contractor and specialist subcontractors across assigned buildings, areas and work fronts.
  • Drive safe execution in accordance with project EHS procedures, approved methods and construction plans.
  • Monitor field progress against the master programme, weekly plans and short-term look-ahead schedules.
  • Confirm work-front readiness, including design availability, access, materials, permits and completion of preceding activities.
  • Coordinate interfaces between CSA, mechanical, electrical, HVAC, process, equipment-installation and external-works packages.
  • Chair or participate in field coordination and contractor planning meetings.
  • Review contractor performance, productivity and resourcing and challenge recovery actions where required.
  • Support the resolution of RFIs, technical queries, design changes and site-generated issues.
  • Coordinate inspections and ensure construction is delivered in accordance with approved drawings, specifications and quality requirements.
  • Maintain visibility of field constraints and escape critical safety, quality, design or schedule concerns.
  • Lead snagging, punch-list and construction-completion activities across assigned areas.
  • Ensure progressive closeout of quality records, as-built information and turnover documentation.
  • Support structured handover of completed buildings and areas to commissioning, qualification and client teams.
  • Provide concise reporting on progress, risks, constraints and recovery priorities.
Skills & Experience
  • A relevant qualification in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management or a related discipline is preferred.
  • At least ten years’ construction experience on major capital projects.
  • Significant experience overseeing civil, structural and architectural works in a superintendent or senior construction-management capacity.
  • Proven ability to manage principal contractors and multiple specialist subcontractors in a large site environment.
  • Strong technical understanding of CSA construction sequence, quality requirements and multidisciplinary interfaces.
  • Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, schedules and contractor work plans.
  • Strong construction-planning, decision-making and field problem-solving capability.
  • A visible leadership style with excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Experience within an EPCM, engineering consultancy or project-delivery organisation would be advantageous.
  • Pharmaceutical, biopharmaceutical or other regulated and high-specification construction experience is strongly preferred.
  • Previous experience delivering major construction projects in Ireland would be beneficial.
Contract Information
  • Rate: TBC dependent on level of skills and expertise.
  • Start Date: As soon as possible
  • Length of Contract: 12 months contract with possible extension.
  • Location: South Dublin
  • Schedule: 4-5 days per week on site.
  • Eligibility: Candidates must hold an Irish/EU passport or a valid Stamp 1G or Stamp 4 permission enabling them to work in Ireland

Pay: €75.00-€88.00 per hour
