Job summary

Crosscare, the social care agency of the Dublin Diocese, invites applications for a part-time Counsellor based in Finglas. The role involves engaging in therapeutic relationships with clients aged 12–18 and supporting parents, alongside working with the clinical team to provide person-centred care.

Qualifications

  • Professional Qualification in Counselling/Psychotherapy of at least 2yrs Diploma Standard and Accreditation with relevant Professional Body.
  • Ability to manage a caseload under supervision and provide therapy to young people 12-18 and support parents.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual counselling and possibly group therapy to young people 12-18 years and provide parental support when necessary.
  • Manage a caseload under the supervision of the line manager.
  • Understand and prioritise Service User needs considering family, mental health, peer group, gender, culture and sexuality.
  • Conduct comprehensive assessment of presenting issues.
  • Facilitate therapeutic groups if necessary.
  • Develop and maintain clinical partnerships with professionals.
  • Monitor and evaluate effectiveness and outcomes of treatment.
  • Discharge and onward referral when appropriate.
  • Referral of clients to self-help groups and community initiatives.
  • Flexibility in practice including out-of-hours and new programmes.

Position Title: Counsellor

Crosscare delivers services with a servant leadership ethos. Crosscare’s Homeless, Youth, Information and Advocacy Teams support those most in need with Love, Respect and Excellence.


Location: Finglas


Work Schedule: 28 hours


Contract: Part Time Permanent


Salary: €43,181 - €57,306 PRO RATA


Reporting to: The post holder will be responsible to Crosscare Counselling Service Manager or nominated Deputy.


The Role: The post holder will engage in therapeutic relationships with clients from 12- 18 years and also support parents. The post holder will work with other members of the clinical team to provide a person-centred care service.


General Responsibilities:



  • Provide individual counselling and possibly group therapy to young people 12-18 years and provide parental support when necessary.

  • Manage a caseload under the supervision of the line manager.

  • Understand and prioritise Service User needs, taking account of the influence of family, mental health, peer group, gender, culture and sexuality on beliefs and behaviours.

  • Conduct comprehensive assessment of the presenting issues of the client and concerned persons where appropriate.

  • Facilitation of therapeutic groups if necessary.

  • Development and maintenance of clinical partnerships with professionals working in same or other treatment modalities and settings.

  • Notification of child protection concerns in accordance with “Children First” Guidelines in consultation with Crosscare Designated Liaison Person.

  • To monitor and evaluate effectiveness and outcomes of treatment for individuals/groups, matching therapy to needs.

  • Discharge and onward referral when appropriate.

  • Referral of clients to self-help groups and community initiatives.

  • Flexibility in practice as required i.e. out of hours, provision of new programmes and service initiatives


Essential Requirements:


The candidate must, at the latest date for receipt of completed application forms for the post, possess: Professional Qualification in Counselling/Psychotherapy of at least 2yrs Diploma Standard AND Accreditation with relevant Professional Body within ACI (previously IAAAC) or IACP, IHIP or other and a minimum of two years' experience of managing a case load under supervision, after achieving professional qualification.


Personal Skills/Attributes:



  • Demonstrate competence in providing therapy to Service Users 12- 18 years, utilising therapeutic approaches such as person-centred and integrative therapies and group facilitation skills.

  • Provide parental support when necessary.

  • Demonstrate detailed up-to-date clinical knowledge of assessments and treatment plans.

  • Demonstrate commitment to ongoing evaluation of supervision and clinical practice to ensure a quality and effective service.

  • Demonstrate knowledge of notification procedures around child protection and management of other ethical considerations relevant to post.

  • Demonstrate an ability to engage in health promotion and education work.

  • Demonstrate commitment to continuing professional development and effective use of supervision.

  • Demonstrate an ability to work both as part of a multidisciplinary team and to work independently, under Supervision Other Requirements of the Post.

  • Access to own transport.

  • A flexible attitude to working evenings if requested.
