Solas IT Recruitment is seeking a hands-on Cloud / Platform Engineer with strong experience in either Azure or AWS to design, build and improve cloud infrastructure and Kubernetes environments. You will work closely with development teams, taking requirements through to implementation and supporting the platforms you build in production.

Using an SRE approach, you will improve reliability, automate recurring tasks and resolve production problems at their source, helping our cloud platform scale

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience designing, building and supporting either Azure or AWS platforms.
• Understand compute, networking, storage and identity services and how they integrate.
• Experience deploying and operating Kubernetes workloads (AKS or EKS).
• Experience with monitoring and observability tools to diagnose problems.
• Experience supporting Windows and Linux environments.
• Scripting and automation experience.
• Strong cloud security understanding and impact of infrastructure changes.
• Clear communication with development teams.
• Ability to explain built solutions and production support.

Responsabilités

• Design, build, configure and maintain Azure or AWS infrastructure across compute, networking, storage and IAM.
• Collaborate with developers to translate requirements into infrastructure and platform solutions.
• Build, operate and troubleshoot Kubernetes environments (AKS/EKS).
• Investigate production incidents involving cloud services and dependencies.
• Resolve connectivity issues, performance bottlenecks, and configuration problems.
• Identify root causes and implement changes to reduce recurring incidents.
• Develop monitoring and observability with logs, metrics, dashboards, alerts.
• Automate infrastructure and operational tasks using scripting (Python helpful).
• Improve platform resilience, security and maintainability.
• Manage permissions, patching, and risk management.
• Reduce manual processes and document platform designs and procedures.

About the Role

We are seeking a hands-on Cloud / Platform Engineer with strong experience in either Azure or AWS to design, build and improve cloud infrastructure and Kubernetes environments.

You will work closely with development teams, take requirements through to implementation and support the platforms you build in production. Using a Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) approach, you will improve reliability, automate recurring tasks and resolve production problems at their source.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, configure and maintain Azure or AWS infrastructure across compute, networking, storage and identity and access management.
• Work directly with developers to understand application requirements and deliver suitable infrastructure and platform solutions.
• Build, operate and troubleshoot Kubernetes environments, such as AKS on Azure or EKS on AWS.
• Investigate production incidents involving cloud services, Kubernetes workloads, operating systems and application dependencies.
• Resolve connectivity issues, application failures, performance bottlenecks and infrastructure configuration problems.
• Identify root causes and implement changes that reduce recurring incidents.
• Develop monitoring and observability through logs, metrics, dashboards and actionable alerts.
• Automate infrastructure and operational tasks using scripting, with Python experience beneficial.
• Improve platform resilience, performance, security and maintainability.
• Manage permissions and address patching requirements, configuration weaknesses and operational risks.
• Reduce technical debt and manual processes.
• Document platform designs, configurations and operational procedures.

Skills and Experience

• Strong practical experience designing, building and supporting either Azure or AWS platforms.
• In-depth understanding of your chosen cloud platform’s compute, networking, storage and identity services, including how they work together.
• Hands‑on experience deploying and operating Kubernetes workloads, ideally using AKS or EKS.
• Proven ability to investigate live production issues and implement lasting improvements.
• Experience using monitoring and observability tools to diagnose problems and assess platform health.
• Practical experience supporting Windows and Linux environments.
• Experience with scripting and automation.
• Strong understanding of cloud security, permissions and the production impact of infrastructure changes.
• Clear communication skills and experience collaborating with development teams.
• Ability to explain what you personally built, why you designed it that way and how you supported it in production.

Additional Experience

• Python scripting.
• Implementing or configuring Backstage or other developer portals.
• Using AI tools such as Claude to support scripting and troubleshooting, with the technical judgement to validate outputs before use
