Job summary

TTM Healthcare Limited is seeking a Clinical Engineering Technician to join the Medical Physics & Clinical Engineering team at Portiuncula University Hospital, Galway. This is a full-time role within an acute hospital setting.

You will service and repair electro-medical equipment, perform routine testing, calibration, safety checks, and assist in equipment procurement and staff training. Flexibility to work outside normal hours is required.

Qualifications

• NFQ Level 7+ engineering qualification in one of the listed disciplines.
• Equivalent qualification acceptable.
• Demonstrated ability to discharge duties with suitability and administrative capacity.
• Flexibility to provide services outside contracted hours.

Responsibilities

• Provide clinical engineering services to support safe, high quality patient care in Portiuncula University Hospital.
• Service and repair electro-medical equipment in workshop and on-site as directed.
• Perform routine service, calibration, performance testing and electrical safety testing as part of PM programme.
• Assist in equipment procurement, disposal and staff training as directed by the Head of Department.
• Ensure compliance with safety requirements and best practices in all duties.

Clinical Engineering Technician

Location: Portiuncula University Hospital, Co. Galway

Working Hours: Full Time (35 hours per week)

TTM Healthcare is recruiting a Clinical Engineering Technician. This is an excellent opportunity in an acute setting.

Purpose Of The Role

To provide Clinical Engineering services to support the delivery of a safe and high quality service to patients at Portiuncula University Hospital in conjunction with the Medical Physics & Clinical Engineering team.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the principle that the care of the patient comes first at all times and will approach their work with the flexibility and enthusiasm necessary to make this principle a reality for every patient to the greatest possible degree.
• Maintain throughout the Group's awareness of the primacy of the patient in relation to all hospital activities.
• Engage in performance management systems as part of the role and be required to participate in the Group’s performance management programme
• To service/repair of electro-medical equipment in both the workshop and on-site (including front line) as directed by the Head of the Department.
• To provide routine service, calibration, performance testing, and electrical safety testing of electro-medical equipment as part of the Department's Preventative Maintenance Programme.
• To provide acceptance testing of new equipment procured by Portiuncula University Hospital
• To co-operate and assist in equipment fault investigations.
• To ensure that all safety requirements, statutory and recommended are satisfied ensuring the safest environment for patients, staff, and others associated with the operation, control and application of electro-medical equipment.
• To ensure all service and repairs are carried out in a fashion that complies with both manufacturer's recommendation and accepted best practice.
• To carry out all work and duties in a manner that reflects optimum safety/assurance for patient and staff alike.
• To prepare and maintain all necessary documentation and records relating to duties performed.
• To provide advice relating to equipment procurement, service and disposal.
• To assist in advising and training hospital staff in the use and service of equipment as directed by the Head of the Department.
• To participate in any necessary training programmes and attends any training courses necessary to maintain or develop staff expertise.
• Develop or participate in research activities in the Department of Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering.
• To assemble, modify, design or manufacture equipment for use by medical, surgical and diagnostic staff required for research, demonstration or teaching purposes as directed by the Head of the Department.
• To contribute to the management of the spare parts inventory and workshop operational policy.
• Any other duties as may be assigned from time to time by the Head of the Department.
• Be available for consultation with medical, paramedical, technical and administrative staff on appropriate matters
• Contribute where required to the planning and equipping of new installations
• From time to time, work outside normal hours, so that equipment can be returned to clinical use as soon as possible.

Key Requirements

Candidates must,

• Hold as a minimum a recognised qualification at National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ), Level 7 or higher, in one of the following engineering disciplines;
  • Electronic,
  • Electrical,
  • Instrument Physics,
  • Industrial Instrumentation,
  • Applied Physics,
  • Mechanical,
  • Mechtronic,
  • Biomedical Engineering

Or

• Hold a recognised qualification at least equivalent to one of the above;

And

• Candidates must possess the requisite knowledge and ability (including a high standard of suitability and administrative capacity) for the proper discharge of the duties of the office.

Flexibility will be a key feature of this position, you may be asked to provide Medical Physics/Clinical Engineering services outside your normal contracted hours from time to time.
