Job summary

European Investment Bank is seeking an Investment Officer to originate and execute growth capital transactions across EU27, focusing on venture debt and convertible debt in Cleantech sectors. Based at Luxembourg HQ with regular office presence, relocation support provided.

You will lead full investment lifecycle activities, collaborate with internal divisions, and engage with CEOs, CFOs, and investors to advance strategic objectives.

Qualifications

• University degree (Bachelor-level or equivalent) preferably in Finance, Business, Engineering, or related discipline.
• Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in venture debt, venture/growth capital, private equity or investment banking.
• Cleantech sector exposure and familiarity with equity-type instruments would be advantageous.
• Proficiency in financial modelling in MS Excel.
• Excellent written and verbal communication in English.
• Knowledge of French (and other EU languages) would be an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Lead direct equity-type transactions across the full investment lifecycle, including origination and initial screening, due diligence, structuring, approval, documentation, execution and disbursement.
• Originate investment opportunities aligned with EIB’s strategic priorities and objectives.
• Perform due diligence on companies and projects, in close cooperation with the EIB Projects Directorate.
• Structure transactions and prepare term sheets using appropriate equity-type instruments (venture debt, convertible debt, warrants, and other hybrid structures).
• Prepare investment proposals for approval by decision makers: drafting concise, balanced and robust approval documents highlighting the strategic rationale, investment thesis and key risks.
• Negotiate and execute finance documentation, in close cooperation with the internal and external legal counsel.
• Monitor portfolio companies, post-signature and up to moment of disbursement.
• Contribute to internal knowledge sharing and non-transactional work in support of the team.
• Represent the Bank at relevant conferences and sector events.
