Job summary

Suir Engineering Ltd. is seeking a Civil Setting Out Engineer for an EP&R project based in Ennis, Co. Clare. You will establish accurate setting out points on sites using total stations, GPS, and laser levels, while interpreting drawings and coordinating with construction teams.

The role requires a civil engineering degree and 2+ years in setting out, with Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and Trimble instrumentation. Travel to multiple sites in Ireland is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
• 2+ years of setting out experience in construction.
• Strong knowledge of surveying equipment and software.

Responsibilities

• Use surveying equipment (total stations, GPS, laser levels) to establish accurate points, lines, and levels onsite.
• Interpret and analyse construction drawings to ensure correct setting out.
• Mark reference points and guide teams to follow precise dimensions.
• Maintain quality checks, safety compliance and records of setting out activities.
• Prepare progress reports and coordinate with senior engineers and managers.
• Ensure equipment calibration and maintenance.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Civil Setting Out Engineer to join Suir Engineering Ltd. The position will be based on an EP&R project in Ennis, Co.Clare.

The Setting Out Engineer is responsible for providing accurate and precise setting out points and measurements on construction sites, ensuring that the structure or infrastructure being built aligns with the project plans and specifications. This role plays a crucial part in the successful completion of construction projects by providing technical support, maintaining quality standards, and ensuring that work is executed correctly.

What You Will Be Doing

• Use surveying equipment such as total stations, GPS, and laser levels to establish accurate points, lines, and levels onsite.
• Interpret and analyse construction drawings, plans, and specifications to ensure accurate setting out of construction elements.
• Mark out reference points and guide construction teams to follow accurate dimensions.
• Monitor and inspect the quality of work, ensuring it meets project requirements and industry standards.
• Identify any discrepancies or deviations from plans and work closely with the project team to resolve them.
• Ensure that all works are carried out in accordance with safety regulations and quality standards.
• Maintain detailed records of all setting out activities, measurements, and quality checks.
• Prepare progress reports and provide feedback to senior engineers and project managers.
• Ensure that all setting out equipment is maintained, calibrated, and in good working condition.

Is this job for me?

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Land Surveying, or related field.
• 2+ years of experience in setting out engineering or a similar role in the construction industry.
• Strong knowledge of surveying equipment is a must (e.g., Trimble, total stations, GPS, laser levels) and software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D).
• Familiarity with construction drawings, specifications, and design documentation.
• Excellent attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Valid driving license and willingness to travel to various project sites in the Ireland
