Job summary

Suir Engineering are seeking a Setting Out Engineer to join our civil engineering team on a live EP&R project in Dublin. You will use surveying equipment to establish accurate points, lines and levels on construction sites, and provide technical support to ensure works align with plans and specifications.

Ideal candidates have a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field, 2+ years setting out experience, and proficiency with Trimble, total stations, GPS and AutoCAD/Civil 3D.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Land Surveying, or related field.
  • 2+ years of experience in setting out engineering or a similar role in construction.
  • Strong knowledge of surveying equipment and software (Trimble, total stations, GPS, laser levels, AutoCAD, Civil 3D).
  • Familiarity with construction drawings, specifications, and design documentation.
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong analytical skills.

Responsibilities

  • Use surveying equipment such as total stations, GPS, and laser levels to establish accurate points, lines, and levels onsite.
  • Interpret and analyze construction drawings, plans, and specifications to ensure accurate setting out of construction elements.
  • Mark out reference points and guide construction teams to follow accurate dimensions.
  • Monitor and inspect the quality of work, ensuring it meets project requirements and industry standards.
  • Identify any discrepancies or deviations from plans and work closely with the project team to resolve them.
  • Ensure that all works are carried out in accordance with safety regulations and quality standards.
  • Maintain detailed records of all setting out activities, measurements, and quality checks.
  • Prepare progress reports and provide feedback to senior engineers and project managers.
  • Ensure that all setting out equipment is maintained, calibrated, and in good working condition.

The Setting Out Engineer is responsible for providing accurate and precise setting out points and measurements on construction sites, ensuring that the structure or infrastructure being built aligns with the project plans and specifications. This role plays a crucial part in the successful completion of construction projects by providing technical support, maintaining quality standards, and ensuring that work is executed correctly.

Is this job for me?

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Valid driving license and willingness to travel to various project sites in the UK
