Focus Ireland is seeking a Catering Assistant (Part Time, Specific Purpose) in Dublin to support food prep, service and hygiene. You will help with kitchen setup, meals, and events, delivering a welcoming, trauma-informed service to service users, staff and visitors.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with kitchen preparation and setup for daily food production.
  • Support preparation, presentation and service of meals, snacks and beverages to quality standards.
  • Provide welcoming, trauma-informed front-of-house service to service users, staff and visitors.
  • Assist with catering for meetings, trainings and events.
  • Keep kitchen areas organised, stocked and clean for service.
  • Manage stock rotation, inventory checks and report shortages or faults.
  • Carry out basic cash-handling duties per policy.
  • Follow HACCP, health and safety and privacy procedures.

Location: Dublin

Contract: Part Time, Specific Purpose

The purpose for this role is to assists with food preparation, service delivery, kitchen operations and hygiene management, while ensuring compliance with food safety, health and safety, and organisational standards. The role requires a positive, flexible and trauma-informed approach that reflects Focus Ireland’s values and supports a respectful, inclusive service environment.

What you will do:
Food Preparation and Service
  • Assist with kitchen preparation and setup prior to daily food production.
  • Support the preparation, presentation and service of meals, snacks and refreshments to agreed quality standards.
  • Provide a professional, welcoming and trauma-informed front-of-house service to all service users, staff and visitors.
  • Assist with catering requirements for meetings, training programmes and special events.
Kitchen Operations
  • Ensure kitchen and food preparation areas are organised, stocked and ready for service at all times.
  • Maintain adequate supplies of crockery, cutlery, utensils and catering equipment, carrying out washing-up and waste disposal duties as required.
  • Assist with stock control, including stock rotation, storage, inventory checks and reporting shortages or equipment faults.
  • Carry out basic cash-handling duties in line with organisational policies and procedures.
Food Safety and Hygiene
  • Maintain the highest standards of personal hygiene, food safety and cleanliness in accordance with HACCP principles, food safety legislation and Focus Ireland procedures.
  • Complete all required food safety records and documentation, including temperature logs, cleaning schedules, delivery checks and food storage records.
Teamwork and Communication
  • Work collaboratively with catering colleagues and wider service teams, communicating effectively with staff, volunteers and stakeholders.
  • Attend team meetings, supervision sessions and training, contributing to service development and continuous improvement initiatives.
Policies, Compliance and Development
  • Adhere to all Focus Ireland policies and procedures, including Health & Safety, GDPR, confidentiality and safeguarding requirements, reporting accidents, incidents and hazards as required.
  • Participate in mandatory training and professional development activities and undertake any other reasonable duties required to support the effective delivery of the catering service.
What you will need:
  • Experience working in a catering, hospitality, food service or similar environment.
  • Experience working as part of a team in a busy operational setting.
  • Knowledge of food safety and hygiene practices.
  • Understanding of health and safety requirements in a catering environment.
  • Awareness of good customer service principles.
  • Positive and flexible approach to work.
  • Respectful and inclusive approach towards customers and colleagues.
  • Reliable, professional and dependable.
  • Food Safety/HACCP certification. (Desirable)
  • Practical / Basic cooking experience. (Desirable)
