Job description

We are seeking an experienced and strategic BI Technical Lead to join our team. The primary objective of this role is to guarantee the operational integrity of all data pipelines, the consistency of semantic model updates, the seamless accessibility of Power BI reporting assets, and the operability of the BI team. As a technical lead, this role involves taking ownership of the most complex tasks, ensuring overall platform integrity, and proactively mentoring team members.

Key Responsibilities
  • Guarantee the operational integrity of all data pipelines, semantic model updates, and Power BI assets. Monitor the data platform on a daily basis to resolve critical issues.
  • Balance DHW management duties with active technical development by taking ownership of the most complex tasks and driving strategic optimizations (e.g., Direct Lake transitions, incremental refreshes) to maintain a low-cost, highly-scalable ETL.
  • Translate business logic into technical requirements and maintain comprehensive documentation to serve as the critical bridge between technical teams and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Supervise developments made by team members and conduct proactive peer reviews to enforce simplicity and maintainability over "over-engineered" solutions.
  • Organize regular training sessions and mentor the team to upskill them in SQL/SparkSQL, Python/PySpark, Data Modeling, Power BI, ETL/ELT, and Microsoft Fabric features.
  • Perform routine data quality checks to ensure Lakehouse tables remain healthy.
  • Identify and implement process automations to streamline operations, centralizing logic in ETL processes to prevent redundant downstream calculations.
  • Manage operational data processing costs by optimizing architecture, utilizing SparkSQL/PySpark notebooks, modularizing shared logic, and efficiently orchestrating data streams.
Requirements
  • Senior-level expertise in both Data Engineering and Dashboard development.
  • Robust expertise in data warehousing, databases, and data engineering, preferably within the Microsoft Fabric ecosystem (Azure ecosystem is equally valuable).
  • Strong proficiency in SQL, Python/PySpark, and SparkSQL.
  • Advanced understanding of Data Modeling principles and ETL/ELT processes.
  • Hands-on experience with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and version control using Git.
  • Strategic capability to evaluate automation ROI and effectively balance the operational cost-benefit ratio of developing automated solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills to translate complex business processes from subject matter experts into clear technical requirements.
Certifications
  • Microsoft Certified: Fabric Data Engineer Associate (DP-700) is a must.
  • Other Fabric and Power BI related certifications are a bonus: DP-600, PL-300, etc
