Job summary

Tipperary Credit Union Limited seeks a Business Development Officer to drive member-focused growth across SME lending, mortgages and broader financial services. This is a full-time, two-year fixed term contract with a base at the head office in Tipperary town and travel throughout the common bond area, especially Castletroy in Co.

Limerick. You will report to the CEO and work with Lending and Marketing to build strong community ties, expand membership, and increase lending while supporting

Qualifications

• Primary degree in Business/Finance preferred.
• QFA qualification or willingness to pursue.
• 3 years’ BDO experience in financial services preferred, SME and mortgage exposure.
• Strategic thinker able to work independently.
• Excellent networking and relationship-building skills.
• Able to analyze market trends and translate insights.
• Collaborates cross-functionally and develops growth strategies.
• Full clean driving license and willingness to attend out-of-hours events.

Tipperary Credit Union is a not for profit, community-based credit union, dedicated to serving its 30,000 members with integrity and purpose, since its inception since 1967. With an asset size of approximately €180 million, and a lending portfolio of €70 million, the credit union has seen significant growth in recent years across its 5-branch network located throughout Co. Limerick and Co. Tipperary.

The Role

Tipperary Credit Union is excited to announce the recruitment of the newly created role of Business Development Officer (BDO), on a full-time, two-year fixed term contract. The role will have a base in the credit union’s head office in Tipperary town, and will involve travel throughout the common bond area, particularly in the Castletroy, Co. Limerick region.

The Business Development Officer is a standalone role reporting to the CEO, responsible for driving sustainable, member‑focused growth across Tipperary Credit Union’s core business lines. The role will support increased lending, membership, and engagement, positioning the credit union as a leading provider of SME lending, mortgage services, and wider financial services within the community.

Working collaboratively with the management team and closely with the Lending and Marketing functions, the BDO will act as a visible ambassador for the credit union, building strong community relationships to support long‑term growth and member financial wellbeing.

Requirements

• A primary degree in Business/Finance is preferred.
• Hold a Qualified Financial Adviser (QFA) or be open to working towards the same.
• Ideally 3 years’ experience in business development within financial services, ideally with exposure to SME and mortgage markets.
• Strategic thinker with the ability to work independently.
• Excellent networking, relationship building, and influencing skills.
• Ability to analyse market trends and translate insights into actionable strategies.
• Strong collaboration skills, with experience working cross functionally.
• Experience in developing and implementing business development growth strategies.
• Strong community engagement is desirable.
• Ideally familiar with credit union operations.
• Full clean driving license and flexibility to attend ‘out of hours’ events.
