Job summary

Genesys in Ireland is seeking a Software Engineer to design, build, and maintain cloud-native backend services powering a globally distributed messaging platform. You will own features through the full software lifecycle, focusing on secure, scalable microservices and reliable delivery for millions of users.

You will collaborate with product managers and engineers, contribute to observability, security, and performance, and apply modern engineering practices to meet customer and business needs

Qualifications

• 3+ years of professional software engineering experience with a focus on backend application development.
• Experience building and maintaining cloud-native or distributed applications.
• Proficiency in TypeScript and/or Java, with the ability and willingness to work across multiple backend technologies.
• Experience developing RESTful APIs and service-oriented applications.
• Understanding of the software development lifecycle, including design, implementation, testing, deployment, and production support.
• Experience working with relational or NoSQL databases.
• Experience with automated testing and continuous integration/deployment practices.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to deliver practical, maintainable solutions.
• Effective communication and collaboration skills within cross-functional engineering teams.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain scalable microservices that support high-volume, real-time messaging workloads.
• Deliver features from technical design through implementation, testing, deployment, and production support with guidance on larger architectural decisions.
• Contribute to the reliability and performance of services by implementing effective logging, monitoring, alerting, and observability practices.
• Participate in the design and evolution of cloud-native services using modern software engineering principles and distributed system patterns.
• Collaborate with product managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to deliver high-quality solutions that meet customer and business needs.
• Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code while following engineering standards and best practices.
• Participate in code reviews, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement initiatives to strengthen engineering quality across the team.
• Help ensure applications meet security, privacy, and compliance requirements, including PCI, HIPAA, and GDPR where applicable.
• Use AI-assisted development tools responsibly to improve productivity, code quality, testing, and delivery while maintaining strong engineering standards.
• Support operational excellence by investigating production issues, participating in incident response, and contributing to continuous service improvements.
