Automation Engineer – GMP & Life Science (Athlone)

Job summary

Oleson is seeking an Automation Engineer in Athlone to configure, operate and maintain the description of process and facility control and data historian systems across manufacturing for GMP environments.

You will work with third party system integrators, guide the internal automation team, develop design docs, review standards, and support validation activities while ensuring compliance and cross‑functional optimization.

Qualifications

• Degree in Engineering/Computer Science or equivalent.
• 8+ years in automation across GMP environments.
• Experience supporting a Fill Finish facility.
• Direct experience with Siemens TIA, WinCC, Desigo, AVEVA Intouch and historians.
• Experience managing system integrators and working with manufacturing facilities.
• Knowledge of cGMP and GAMP best practices for site automation.
• OSIS PI data historian, SQL Server and virtualization experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Configure and implement all automation systems onsite, independently or with third party integrators.
• Manage third party vendors/system integrators for projects or sustaining activities.
• Provide guidance to the in‑house Automation team on all automation systems.
• Develop, review and approve design documentation and project standards.
• Provide automation expertise to engineering and operations on design and sustaining decisions.
• Develop and implement SOPs for future compliance and management of automation systems.
• Ensure all systems are delivered and maintained in a compliant state and support validation activities.
• Participate in cross functional teams to optimize equipment and processes.
• Assist in training personnel on automation aspects of equipment.
• Lead automation projects and coordinate timelines with project leads.
