You will supervise construction of 1.45 km of new and improved carriageway as part of the site team. The role requires an engineering degree (Level 8) and at least three years of post-graduate experience, with strong English communication and organisational skills.

Qualifications

  • At least three years' post-graduate experience as an assistant resident engineer delivering road and bridge projects.
  • Experience with contracts, timeframes, and contractual obligations.
  • Experience in maintaining accurate records and reporting.
  • Experience monitoring contractor health and safety, temporary traffic management and environmental commitments.
  • Strong organisational skills are essential.
  • Excellent written and oral communication; fluent English.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the senior resident engineer and employer’s representative in their duties.
  • Monitor the execution of the works in accordance with the contract requirements.
  • Carry out daily site inspections of workmanship, witness testing and record daily site activities.
  • Raise and agree close-out of non-conformance reports.
  • Review technical queries and liaise with the design team on design-related matters.
  • Review and agree inspection and test plans with the contractor.
  • Review testing records for compliance with the contract requirements.

About The Role

The N25 Rosslare Europort Access Road scheme is located in Rosslare Harbour, Co. Wexford, and involves improvements to the existing road network and the construction of a new road corridor to provide enhanced access to Rosslare Europort.

As an assistant resident engineer on the scheme, you will be part of the site-based team responsible for supervising the construction of 1.45 km of new and improved carriageway.

Key features include the construction of a new rail over bridge, installation of two access underpasses, 1.45km of new road construction to include pedestrian and cycle facilities, drainage, earthworks, signage local road tie-ins and associated works.

Duties
  • Assist the senior resident engineer and employer’s representative in the performance of their duties
  • Monitor the execution of the works in accordance with the contract requirements
  • Carry out daily site inspections of workmanship, witness testing and record daily site activities
  • Raise and agree close-out of non-conformance reports
  • Review technical queries and liaise with the design team on any design-related matters
  • Review and agree inspection and test plans with the contractor
  • Review testing records for compliance with the contract requirements
  • Review the contractor’s submissions, including method statements, temporary traffic management plans and environmental management plans
Essential
  • A degree in engineering (Level 8 qualification in the National Framework of Qualifications or equivalent)
  • At least three years’ satisfactory post-graduate experience as an assistant resident engineer in the delivery of road and bridge projects, including structures, drainage, utilities, road construction and active travel
  • A high standard of technical training and experience, including administrative experience of contracts, the roles and duties of the respective parties, contractual obligations and timeframes
  • Experience in implementing procedures and systems for accurate record-keeping
  • Experience of monitoring the contractor for compliance with health and safety regulations, temporary traffic management plans and environmental commitments
  • Good organisational skills
  • A strong work ethic
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Fluency/high level of proficiency in spoken and written English
Desirable
  • Personal Track Safety training
  • Experience in the supervision of works in a railway environment
  • Experience of administering the public works forms of contract (PW-CF3)
  • Competency in the use of Microsoft Suite and AutoCAD
  • Competency in reading and understanding plans and specifications
  • Experience in implementing procedures and systems for quality control on site
  • Experience of preparing clear and concise reports
