Job summary

Rent a Recruiter is hiring an Assistant Quantity Surveyor in Ireland to support cost management and commercial services across a varied project portfolio. You will work with Senior QS, Project Managers, engineers and architects to contribute to feasibility, design through to final accounts.

You will gain practical experience in cost estimation, tender analysis, procurement, measurements, and cost reporting while developing knowledge of Irish contracts and procurement methods.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Quantity Surveying or related discipline with strong numerical ability.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills for cost management and procurement.
  • Familiarity with Irish construction contracts and procurement methods is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with cost estimates, budgets, cost plans, and forecasts.
  • Support tender preparation, tender analysis and procurement activities.
  • Measure quantities and prepare Bills of Quantities.
  • Monitor expenditure and assist with cost reporting.
  • Review contractor applications for payment, valuations and variations.
  • Support change management and commercial risk assessment.
  • Prepare and review financial, commercial, and cost management reports for clients.
  • Work with Senior QS, Project Managers, Engineers, Architects and teams.
  • Learn legislation, contracts, procurement processes and industry best practice.

Job description

As an Assistant Quantity Surveyor, you will support the delivery of cost management and commercial services across a diverse portfolio of projects. Working alongside experienced professionals, you will gain valuable practical experience across the full project lifecycle — from feasibility and design through to procurement, construction, and final account settlement.

This is an excellent opportunity to develop your technical and commercial skills while working on a variety of projects within a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.

Your Role

As an Assistant Quantity Surveyor, your responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting with the preparation of cost estimates, budgets, cost plans, and financial forecasts.
  • Supporting tender preparation, tender analysis, and procurement activities.
  • Undertaking measurement of quantities and preparing Bills of Quantities where required.
  • Monitoring project expenditure and assisting with regular cost reporting.
  • Reviewing contractor applications for payment, valuations, and variations.
  • Assisting with the assessment and management of change and commercial risk.
  • Supporting the preparation of financial, commercial, and cost management reports for clients.
  • Assisting with the preparation and review of final accounts.
  • Working closely with Senior Quantity Surveyors, Project Managers, Engineers, Architects, and other multidisciplinary teams.
  • Developing an understanding of relevant legislation, contracts, procurement processes, company procedures, and industry best practice.
  • Contributing to the continuous improvement of project and commercial management processes.
  • Taking an active approach to professional development and building your knowledge of the quantity surveying profession.
  • A degree qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Economics, Commercial Management, or a related discipline.
  • Strong numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail with good organisational and time-management abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Microsoft Excel.
  • A proactive and positive approach with a genuine willingness to learn and develop.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Full eligibility to work in Ireland.
  • Previous internship, placement, graduate, or other experience within the construction or property industry.
  • An understanding of Irish construction contracts, including Public Works Contracts (PWC/PW-CF) and RIAI forms of contract.
  • Knowledge of construction procurement methods and commercial management processes.
  • Working towards professional membership of the Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland (SCSI) and/or Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).
  • Familiarity with cost management, estimating, measurement, or construction management software.
  • An interest in digital construction, BIM, and emerging technologies within the built environment.
