Job summary

Harris Group, Ireland’s leading distributor of commercial vehicles and aftersales services, invites applications for a hands-on accounting role within its fast-paced finance team in Dublin. The successful candidate will handle bank and intercompany reconciliations, assist with month-end close, oversee expenses, and deliver regular reports while supporting the wider finance team.

Responsibilities

  • Bank Reconciliations: Regular reconciliations for all group bank accounts and resolve reconciling items.
  • Intercompany Reconciliations: Reconcile intercompany balances with group entities.
  • Reconciling key balance sheet accounts including stock, grants, VAT.
  • Month-End Closing: Coordinate month-end activities and provide reporting.
  • Expenses: Oversee expense postings and ad hoc analysis.
  • Reporting and support: Prepare weekly/monthly reports and assist with financial tasks.
  • Audit Support: Prepare files and schedules for auditors.
  • Process Improvement: Identify efficiencies in finance processes.

Job description

Working as part of a fast-paced finance team and closely with the finance managers, the primary responsibilities of this role will be:

  • Bank Reconciliations
  • Intercompany Reconciliations
  • Assisting with preparation of month-end accounts for the entities, including other control reconciliations
  • Expense processing and reporting
  • VAT reporting preparation
  • Prepare ad-hoc reports
  • Support the finance managers and the whole finance team

The successful candidate will report into the Finance Director Ireland and work closely with the wider finance team. There is significant scope for progression and development within this dynamic and fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Bank Reconciliations: Perform regular bank reconciliations for all group bank accounts, ensuring balances are accurate and fully supported. Investigate and resolve reconciling items in a timely manner, liaising with internal stakeholders as required, and ensure bank balances are fully reconciled and supported at month end.
  • Intercompany Reconciliations: Perform regular intercompany account reconciliations between group entities, ensuring balances are accurate, agreed, and eliminated in line with group policies. Investigate and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner, liaising with internal stakeholders as needed, and ensure intercompany balances are fully reconciled and supported at month end.
  • Reconciling key balance sheet accounts:including stock, SEAI grants, VAT and other control accounts, ensuring accuracy and integrity.
  • Month-End Closing: Co-ordinate month-end closing activities as required. Provide all necessary reporting and analysis required to support the Group month end close.
  • Expenses: Oversee all expense postings to the accounts on a monthly basis, and prepare ad hoc analysis as required.
  • Reporting and support: Prepare weekly and monthly reports and provide general support to the finance managers and the finance team, and assist with ad-hoc financial tasks and projects.
  • Audit Support: Prepare files for auditors, including preparing schedules, evidence, and other backup for our auditors and other external bodies as required.
  • Process Improvement: Identify and implement process improvements to drive the efficiency and effectiveness of the finance function and the business. Challenge current ways of working, driving efficiencies and cost savings whenever possible. Proactively support with the implementation of wider finance and business initiatives.
  • Accounting technician or part qualified accountant (ACCA, ACA, CIMA.)
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience of working in an accounting role.
  • Strong knowledge of debits and credits and general accounting principles. Excellent analytical and numerical skills and a good knowledge of excel and accounting software.
  • Must have experience of monthly accounts processing, completing bank and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Dynamic and pro-active, with great attention to accuracy and detail. Cares about the quality and standard of their work.
  • Inquisitive and inquiring, and able to grasp complex processes and understand their basic accounting implications.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with ability to build rapport with various colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills with the ability to manage several priorities simultaneously, whilst still meeting deadlines.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively within a team environment and a proactive approach to individual tasks.
  • Flexible and prepared to assist others within Finance team where necessary.
  • A positive and adaptable approach to work and change.
  • Experience of, or interest in, the motor industry, while not necessary, would be an advantage

The role will be onsite initially, with the possibility of hybrid working in due course by agreement
