Job summary

Uisce Éireann is seeking an Asset Planning Lead Engineer to drive the delivery of essential water services infrastructure across Ireland. You will lead capital planning, assess capacity, and develop business cases in collaboration with Local Authorities and other stakeholders.

The role requires a strong engineering background, 5+ years in water/utilities, and a proven ability to analyse data and deliver value through structured investment plans.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field is desirable.
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the water, utilities or similar industries is desirable.
• Strong analytical skills and ability to identify problems and improvements, and propose solutions.

• Support the Capex pipeline to ensure timely delivery of key wastewater network projects and programmes.
• Lead the development and support of processes for collecting and analysing asset data.

• Support continuous improvement of Drinking Water Safety Plans, Supply Demand Balance and Risk assessments.
• Assess system capacity to facilitate new water and wastewater connections.
• Prepare business cases for monitoring, control and automation systems.
• Represent the Asset Planning team at meetings and prepare information for submissions.
• Provide progress reports and updates for Asset Planning.

The Role:

The Asset Management and Sustainability area is responsible for the development of asset policies, strategies and plans to determine the significant investment required into Ireland’s infrastructure. The area drives investment and the Sustainability and Innovation agenda for the organisation and leads on Environmental Regulation and Compliance activities, ensuring the quality of water and wastewater is continuously monitored. The Asset Management function is responsible for strategic planning, prioritisation, and development of Uisce Éireann’s Capital Works pipeline. The function plays a key role in promoting collaboration and co-ordination of activities across the three asset functions as well as providing environmental assessment and management expertise across Uisce Éireann

The Asset Planning team is accountable for the timely delivery of essential, value for money water services Infrastructure for Ireland. The scope of the team's responsibility covers 5 main areas: Housing Growing, Capex Pipeline, Risk Maintenance and Safety, Critical Assets and Leakage.

Reporting to the Wastewater Network Synergies Manager, the Asset Planning Lead Engineer plays a key role in promoting collaboration and co-ordination of asset planning activities across the three asset functions. This includes the roll-out of asset standards and policies, the use of common tools and the identification, approval and prioritisation of investment needs within the regions. The role holder works closely with Local Authorities and third parties to deliver on services for Uisce Eireann customers and supports assessments and decision making in relation to system capacity to support growth and significant new connection applications.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

• Act as project sponsor through all the formal workshop in a project’s life.

• Support the Capex pipeline to ensuring thetimelydelivery of key wastewater network projects andprogrammes

• Lead the development and support of processes for collecting and analysing asset data.

• Analyse and interpret data and information from various sources required for the completion of technical assessments.

• Perform technical assessments of assets to inform future investment needs,

• Support continuous improvement of Drinking Water Safety Plans, Supply Demand Balance and Risk assessments

• Assess the system capacity to facilitate new water and wastewater connections (including significant trade effluent licence applications and reviews)

• Prepare business cases in relation to monitoring, control and automation systems.

• Represent the Asset Planning team at meetings as required across the region and prepare information for submissions

• Provide progress reports and updates for Asset Planning

• Liaise and Collaborate with the following to identify and support delivery of critical water servicesinfrastructure tofacilitatefuture growth, environmental compliance and provide service resiliencethrough synergies with other infrastructure providers:

  • Asset Performance

  • Asset Strategy

  • Connections & Developer Services

  • Asset Operations

  • Infrastructure Delivery Directorate

• Identify and collaborate on key data improvement initiatives for critical information on all proposed projects. Ensure appropriate information is adequately collated and managed data is to facilitate prioritisation of projects and reporting to stakeholders.

• Develop Asset Standards, Policies and Specifications

• Provide engineering support to the Asset Planning team as required

General Duties and Responsibilities

• Collaboration with key internal stakeholders across the UÉ business

• Responsible for promoting and delivering health and safety commitments across UÉ and its supply chain, reinforcing positive behaviours and delivering health and safety objectives and requirements to the highest industry standards

• Support the delivery of the Uisce Éireann Transformation Programme, driving results required within the Directorate and supporting organisation-wide objectives

• Conducts duties and responsibilities in accordance with Uisce Éireann’s Information Security policies, standards, processes and controls to protect the confidentiality, integrity and availability of UÉ business information and delivery of critical services, in accordance with the NIS Directive and any other relevant cybersecurity regulation

• Other duties as required

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

• Relevantthird level qualification and or accreditation. A Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related area is desirable.

• A minimum of 5 years’ Experience in the water, utilities or similar industries is desirable and or relevant experience

• Experience in managing end-to-end processes to ensure delivery meets customer expectations

• Ability to develop and maintain effective strategic partnerships with key stakeholders internally and externally and offer guidance and support to make the right decisions

• Highly motivated individual, working to the highest professional and ethical standards with proven ability to deliver results

• Strong analytical skills and ability to identify and analyse problems and potential improvements, and propose and implement solutions

• Experience in contributing to a safe working environment by checking regularly that safety and wellbeing practices are being followed
