Job summary

Kepak Group in Athlone Municipal District is seeking an Apprentice Fitter to join their maintenance team in a busy abattoir plant. Kepak Athleague are currently recruiting for an Apprentice Fitter to join the maintenance team in a busy beef & lamb abattoir plant.

Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, the successful candidate will work as part of a team responsible for all aspects of machine and equipment maintenance, specialising in the repair of industrial equipment.

What to expect in the job?
  • Assist with repair of industrial production equipment such as machines, conveyors, packaging machines, gearboxes, bearings and hydraulics.
  • Assist the Lead Maintenance Technician with the implementation of preventative maintenance programmes for all machines in assigned area.
  • Assist with the continuous monitoring of all machinery and equipment within the plant.
  • Assist in real time repair of machines and equipment to get them back up & running within optimum time frame.
  • Document all aspects of maintenance work carried out and keep management informed of potential issues.
  • Adhere to company safety policies at all times.
Requirements
  • Must have a keen interest in learning about machines & conveyors, packaging machines, gearbox repairs, air automation, hydraulics and welding.
  • Must have a keen interest in learning the Trade of a Fitter within a manufacturing/industrial setting.
  • We run a maintenance CMMS system, knowledge on the use of computers would be an advantage, training provided.
  • Must be flexible, open to new ideas and work practices.
  • Good communication skills, enthusiastic, hardworking and energetic.
  • Able to deal with pressurised situations and remain calm and focused.
  • Flexibility to meet peak work demands as required.
  • Basic electrical knowledge an advantage, but not essential.
