The Commission for Regulation of Utilities (CRU) isIreland's independent energy and water regulator. CRU employees play an important part in delivering safe and secure supplies of energy and water, protecting and empowering customers and the deployment of renewable and low-carbon solutions across Ireland. We are currently seeking analysts with a minimum of 1 year’s relevant experience working within an energy, safety, water, process industry or a related sector.
The Position

Working Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Hybrid working: Up to 3 days per week remote working available

Tenure: Appointment will be on a permanent basis, subject to successful passing of the probationary period.
The Role of Analyst
We are seeking candidates with experience in economics, engineering, legal, public policy and other relevant fields to fill posts in the following areas:
Security of Supply and Wholesale
Ensuring a secure energy transition to 2030, delivering on our 80% renewable electricity target and overseeing the wholesale all-island Single Electricity Market (SEM) in co-operation with the Utility Regulator in Belfast.
Networks and Economic Regulation
Working with Uisce Éireann and energy companies, enhancing the CRU’s economic regulation of these critical networks, ensuring that they support customers, underpin economic growth and play a transformational role in climate change adaptation and mitigation.
Customer Policy and Protection (incl. Legal)
Empowering and protecting customers, overseeing competition and consumer protection across Ireland’s energy retail markets and playing an important role in supporting the National Energy Affordability Taskforce. The Legal, Compliance and Enforcement teams are also part of this Division, providing legal advice and support and compliance and enforcement duties across the organisation on a broad range of regulatory and corporate matters.
Regulating safety of gas (networks, supply, storage, use and liquefied petroleum gas distribution), petroleum (upstream onshore and offshore exploration and production of hydrocarbons), gas installers and electrical contractors.
Decarbonisation
Delivering new CRU regulatory frameworks for offshore renewables, green hydrogen, district heating and other new technologies and leading cross-cutting decarbonisation projects, including electricity connection policy, interconnector regulation and Projects of Common Interest.
Operations and Organisational Development
Supporting and empowering the CRU teams to achieve outcomes in our Strategic Plan in the areas of process improvement, finance and governance, human resources, information technology, and communications.
Duties and Responsibilities
Reporting to a manager, the successful candidate will be involved in a varied role working to tight deadlines in a dynamic environment. CRU Analyst roles typically include activities such as:
The above list is not exhaustive. While the successful candidate will be assigned to a particular team within the CRU, they will also be expected to contribute to the work of the wider Division/CRU as requirements dictate.
The CRU may establish a shortlist of suitable candidates for potential future positions that may arise within the organisation.
Qualifications and Experience
Candidates must have on or before the closing date for applications the following:
1. An appropriate NFQ Level 8 or higher qualification, preferably in economics, law, engineering, science, health and safety (process safety), business or other closely related discipline;
2. A minimum of 1 year’s relevant experience working within an energy, safety, water, process industry or a related sector.
1. Knowledge/experience of existing and developing policy frameworks in the regulated energy sectors;
2. Experience working in a regulated sector or governmental organisation.
Candidates must be eligible to work full-time in Ireland at the time of application.
