Job summary

NHS Lanarkshire is seeking a Care Assistant to support registered nurses and contribute to high-quality patient care across ward settings. You will perform assigned tasks, assist with admissions and procedures, monitor vital signs, and help maintain hygiene, order and safety to ensure a smooth patient experience.

The role requires SVQ III in healthcare or equivalent experience, strong communication and teamwork, and a full UK/EU driving licence.

Qualifications

  • SVQ III in healthcare, or working towards, or equivalent experience in a caring environment/role.
  • Ability to work with people and as part of a multidisciplinary/agency team.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to carry out assigned patient care tasks effectively within a busy environment.
  • A driving licence is required; this must be a full UK/EU/EEA licence.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out assigned tasks to deliver and support direct patient care, under the direction of a registered nurse, to ensure delivery of a high quality of patient care e.g.
  • Assist in the preparation of patients for procedures.
  • Assist with admission, transfer and discharge of patients.
  • Assist in the collection of routine urine/blood specimens.
  • Monitor and order supplies and carry out required housekeeping duties, in order to support patient care.
  • Provide escort duties as required.
  • Undertake recording of patient vital signs and report results to registered staff.
  • Assist in maintenance and improvement of patient mobility in conjuction and in support of other members of the multidisciplinary team to continue rehabilitation.
  • Report observed changes in the patients physical and psychological needs and participate in maintaining accurate and up to date records, to ensure effective communication.

The Role

As part of a multidisciplinary team, the post holder will carry out care duties for patients, in support of a registered nurse, and will regularly work unsupervised.
The post holder will carry out assigned duties to maintain hygiene, order and safety within the ward environment.

Duties may vary with the type of ward/department and the degree of patient dependency.
