Job summary

Flex seeks an SMT Engineer in Batam to support SMA production for SpinCo, delivering end-to-end power and thermal management solutions for AI data centers. The role drives SMA process optimization, documentation, and equipment support to ensure high FPY and reliability.

The position collaborates with MES, QCC, and RCCA, applying lean manufacturing and Six Sigma principles to reduce defects and enhance manufacturing efficiency. Strong data analysis and English communication are essential.

Qualifications

• Diploma or above in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Automation Engineering, or related disciplines.
• Solid knowledge and hands-on experience in SMA manufacturing processes.
• At least 5 years of relevant experience in electronics manufacturing.
• Good knowledge of SPC, Six-sigma (Green or Black belt preferred).
• Able to work independently with a structured, analytical, problem-solving approach.
• Excellent communication, coordination, and data analysis skills.
• Good English reading and writing skills for daily work and technical communications.

Responsibilities

• Drive and execute SMA process, including preparation, optimization, and maintenance of related documentation for test runs, qualification testing, and mass production.
• Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance FPY, productivity, and overall manufacturing efficiency, while reducing defects and escapes.
• Develop, validate, and maintain production programs for SMA equipment (Screen Printers, Dispensers, SPI, Pick & Place, Reflow Ovens).
• Evaluate and qualify new SMA equipment based on business requirements; perform equipment validation and line qualification to improve capability and capacity.
• Provide technical support related to SMA processes for MES, QCC, RCCA, driving process quality improvements for yield and reliability.
• Introduce and implement advanced manufacturing technologies and best practices within SMT manufacturing, supporting Manufacturing Excellence.

Flex intends to spin off its Cloud and Power Infrastructure segment into a new, independent publicly traded company, which we’re calling SpinCo, until the name is unveiled. The spin is planned for Q1 2027. If the intended spin occurs, this role will support SpinCo, which will focus on critical digital infrastructure, delivering end-to-end power and thermal management solutions for AI data centers and other mission-critical applications.

About the role

This position is responsible for providing SMT related technical support to SMA production in an efficient and cost-effective manner.

Key responsibilities

• Drive and execute SMA (Surface Mount Assembly) process, including the preparation, optimization, and maintenance of related documentation to Test runs, qualification testing, and mass production.
• Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance First Pass Yield (FPY), productivity, and overall manufacturing efficiency, while reducing defect rates and process escapes.
• Develop, validate, and maintain production programs for SMA equipment, including Screen Printers, Dispensers, SPI (Solder Paste Inspection), Pick & Place Machines, and Reflow Ovens.
• Evaluate, introduce, and qualify new SMA equipment based on business requirements. Perform equipment validation and production line qualification activities to improve manufacturing capability, capacity, and operational efficiency.
• Provide technical support related to SMA processes for MES (Manufacturing Execution System), QCC (Quality and Complaint Control), and RCCA, driving process quality improvements to enhance product yield and reliability.
• Introduce and implement advanced manufacturing technologies, methodologies, and best practices within the SMT manufacturing environment, supporting Manufacturing Excellence initiatives.

About you

• Diploma or above in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Automation Engineering, or related disciplines.
• Solid knowledge and hands‑on experience in SMA (Surface Mount Assembly) manufacturing processes. Familiar with process engineering, productivity improvement, Industrial Engineering (IE), and Lean Production methodologies and applications within Power Module manufacturing.
• At least 5 years of relevant experience in the electronics manufacturing industry, with prior experience as an SMT Engineer, Manufacturing Engineer, Process Engineer, Mechanical Engineer, or similar roles preferred.
• Good knowledge of SPC, Six‑sigma, Green or Black belt is preferred.
• Able to work independently with a strong sense of ownership and self‑motivation. Possesses a structured approach to work, with strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
• Excellent communication, coordination, and data analysis skills.
• Good English reading and writing skills, with the ability to support daily work activities and technical communications.
