Qualifications

• Proven knowledge of Indonesian environmental legislation and ISO 14001.
• Strong communication in English and Bahasa Indonesia.

About the role

This is a critical role that sits at the intersection of environmental compliance, operational excellence and sustainability within our shipyard operations. You will be responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining comprehensive environmental management systems that ensure our shipyard operates in full compliance with Indonesian and international environmental regulations. This position is integral to our commitment to sustainable maritime operations and our corporate environmental responsibility objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, implement and oversee environmental management systems and procedures across all shipyard operations
• Conduct regular environmental audits and assessments to identify compliance gaps and areas for improvement
• Monitor and manage hazardous waste streams, including paint, oils, chemicals and other pollutants generated during shipyard activities
• Prepare and maintain environmental documentation, permits, licenses and regulatory submissions required by Indonesian authorities
• Lead environmental impact assessments for new projects and shipyard expansion initiatives
• Coordinate with external environmental consultants, regulatory bodies and certification agencies
• Develop and deliver environmental training programmes to shipyard staff at all levels
• Manage air and water quality monitoring programmes, including emissions testing and waste water treatment oversight
• Investigate environmental incidents, prepare incident reports and implement corrective actions
• Establish and track key environmental performance indicators and sustainability metrics
• Liaise with health, safety and quality teams to ensure integrated environmental management practices

What we're looking for

• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Environmental Management or a related engineering discipline
• Minimum 3 years' professional experience in environmental management, preferably within maritime, shipbuilding or heavy industrial sectors
• Proven knowledge of Indonesian environmental legislation, particularly those applicable to shipyard operations and waste management
• Familiarity with international environmental standards and frameworks including ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems
• Strong understanding of hazardous materials handling, waste management and pollution prevention practices
• Experience with environmental monitoring equipment and data collection methodologies
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Bahasa Indonesia
• Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver environmental training and awareness programmes
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail
• Ability to work collaboratively with operational, engineering and management teams
• Professional certification such as Certified Environmental Manager (CEM) or equivalent qualification is highly desirable
• Experience with environmental management software and data analysis tools would be advantageous
