Job summary

Yayasan Al-Azhar Kelapa Gading invites a dedicated Shadow Teacher to support a child with Down syndrome in classroom activities and daily routines.

You will adapt teaching approaches, observe progress, and collaborate with teachers, parents, and specialists to foster an inclusive learning environment.

The ideal candidate has HS/SMK or higher, with relevant experience or training in special education, patient, empathetic, and able to maintain confidentiality.

Qualifications

• Experience with children with special needs is advantageous.

• Patient, caring, and highly empathetic with good communication.
• Able to work collaboratively with teachers, parents, and the school team.
• Experience as Shadow Teacher or related roles is a plus.

Job description

The Shadow Teacher will provide individualized support to a child with Down syndrome in participating in classroom learning activities and daily school routines. The role requires a positive, supportive, and individualized approach based on the child's abilities and needs.

Key responsibilities

• Accompany and support the child throughout classroom learning activities.
• Help the child understand and follow the teacher's instructions and complete learning activities.
• Support the child's social interaction and communication with peers.
• Encourage and develop the child's independence in daily activities.
• Observe the child's development, needs, and behavior and maintain simple progress notes.
• Coordinate and communicate with the classroom teacher, parents, and relevant professionals.
• Help create a safe, comfortable, positive, and inclusive learning environment.
• Adapt learning approaches and support strategies according to the child's individual abilities and needs.

About you

• Minimum education: Senior High School/Vocational High School (SMA/SMK).
• A Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Special Education, Early Childhood Education, Education, or a related field is preferred.
• Previous experience working with children with special needs is an advantage.
• Basic understanding of child development and the needs of children with Down syndrome.
• Patient, caring, communicative, and highly empathetic.
• Able to work collaboratively with teachers, parents, and the school team.
• Responsible, disciplined, and able to maintain the confidentiality of the child's information.
• Willing to learn and follow guidance from teachers and relevant professionals.
• Experience as a Shadow Teacher, Special Education Teacher/Assistant, therapist, caregiver, or special needs support staff.
• Relevant certificates or training in special education or working with children with special needs.
