Job summary

Almacita School is seeking a dedicated Special Needs Shadow Teacher to support students with diverse learning needs in our Kindergarten and Elementary programs. The role focuses on hands-on 1:1 support and collaboration with teachers to implement IEPs.

You will work with students with ASD, ADHD, learning difficulties, speech delays, sensory challenges, and emotional regulation needs, ensuring participation, safety, and progress in a structured school environment.

Qualifications

  • 1 year of experience working with children with special needs.
  • Familiar with writing and implementing IEPs.
  • Good English communication preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 classroom support to ensure participation and safety.
  • Assist with routines, attention, behavior, and social interaction.
  • Support adapting activities and review IEP goals with teachers and parents.
  • Track progress through observation and documentation aligned with IEP targets.
  • Participate in meetings with parents and professionals as needed.
  • Implement strategies aligned with learning plans and therapist guidance.
  • Maintain confidentiality and safeguarding policies.

Job description

Almacita School is looking for a dedicated, patient, and compassionate Special Needs Shadow Teacher to support students with diverse learning needs in our Kindergarten and Elementary programs.

This role requires candidates who have hands-on experience working with children with special educational needs, such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD, learning difficulties, speech delay, sensory challenges, and emotional regulation needs.

The successful candidate must also be familiar with developing and implementing IEP (Individualized Education Plan).

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide 1:1 classroom support for a student with special needs to ensure learning participation and emotional safety.
  • Assist the student in managing:
    • Classroom routines and transitions
    • Attention and focus
    • Behavior and impulse control
    • Social interaction with peers
  • Support the classroom teacher in adapting learning activities and expectations based on the student’s needs.
  • Develop, implement, and review IEP goals in collaboration with teachers, school leadership, and parents.
  • Track student progress through observation notes, data collection, and documentation aligned with IEP targets.
  • Participate in meetings with parents and relevant professionals (therapists/psychologists) when needed.
  • Implement individualized strategies aligned with the student’s learning plan and therapist recommendations.
  • Maintain confidentiality and uphold the school’s child protection and safeguarding policies.
Requirements
  • Minimum Diploma/Bachelor’s degree in Education, Psychology, Special Education, Child Development, or a related field.
  • At least 1 year of experience working directly with children with special needs (required).
  • Proven experience supporting children with:
    • Learning difficulties / slow learners
    • Sensory needs / emotional regulation challenges
  • Familiar and confident in writing and implementing IEPs (required).
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with teachers and parents.
  • High level of patience, empathy, and professionalism.
  • Ability to stay calm and consistent in challenging situations.
  • Comfortable working in a structured school environment.
  • Good English communication is preferred (school environment).
Preferred Qualifications (Plus Points)
  • Training/certification in:
    • Sensory integration strategies
    • Montessori-based learning support
    • Experience working in a bilingual or international school setting.
    • Experience creating measurable goals and progress tracking for IEP documentation.
