Job summary

adidas Group is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel to support the Senior Director, Legal and Compliance for SEA. Based in Jakarta, you will advise on commercial, employment, privacy and competition matters across SEA markets, with daily focus on Indonesia and Malaysia.

You will draft, negotiate and review contracts, counsel on transactions, represent the company in disputes, and coordinate cross-border initiatives with global teams.

Qualifications

• Must be proficient in spoken and written English and Bahasa Indonesia, and legal drafting both languages.
• Graduate of a recognised law school and admitted as a member of the legal profession in Indonesia.
• At least 10 years’ experience either in the legal department of a multinational corporation or a law firm with an international practice.
• Experience in FMCG, sports company or retail industry is preferred.
• Solid experience in general corporate work, commercial contracts, privacy, employment and competition and consumer law.
• Good knowledge of the Indonesian legal system and government bodies; litgation/arbitration experience.
• Willing to participate in a team-oriented, consensus-building environment.
• Independent, self-motivated and responsive.

Responsibilities

• Drafting, negotiating and reviewing a variety of contracts and correspondence.
• Providing legal support and advice on various issues in the company’s daily business and operations, including general commercial, employment law, competition law, brand related advice, leasing, consumer complaints, ecommerce initiatives, governmental inquiries, customs, importation etc.
• Counselling and structuring transactions, assessing legal risks and minimising disputes.
• Representing the company at hearings, conciliations, employment disputes and the like.
• Participating in and/or leading legal projects and initiatives, and coordinating cross-function and/or cross-border efforts.
• When necessary, participating in global and/or regional legal, compliance and risk initiatives and projects to ensure global best practice and consistency.
• Identifying and driving opportunities to increase operational efficiencies within the legal and compliance team.
• Providing effective and appropriate supervision and management of delivery of legal services through external counsel.
• Monitoring changes and developments in the legal and regulatory environment in the SEA markets, and providing appropriate counsel and advice to management and SeniorDirector, Legal and Compliance on such changes and proposed actions.
• Developing and conducting educational programs and materials as appropriate in relevant legal areas.

Purpose & Overall Relevance for the Organization:

The purpose of this role is to support Senior Director, Legal and Compliance, South East Asia and Pacific.

The role will primarily focus on all types of legal and compliance matters and advice in the South East Asia (SEA) cluster, comprising Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Philippines and Vietnam, but concentrating from day to day on Indonesia and Malaysia. The role involves direct interaction with the SEA Legal Team based in Singapore, Indonesia Country Management Team, commercial teams in the SEA cluster and countries, as well as those in the Emerging Markets Hub and Global.

Key Responsibilities:

Compliance and Privacy

• Ensuring thatmatters related to localprivacylawsand local competition lawsare appropriately handledbyidentifying risks, providingtrainingto employees,managing internal protocols,and facilitatingcomplianceprogramsto minimize legal risks. Promptly reporting and sharing the identified legal risks to Global stakeholders (e.g., Global Compliance, Global Privacy) from time to time to achieve full transparency.
• Driving awareness and analysing the risks and opportunities in the realm of compliance.
• Designing, developing and delivering legal and compliance trainings to adidas staff, and working with relevant stakeholders to formulate and implement appropriate standards and procedures consistent with applicable laws when needed.
• Supporting the development and implementation of corporate compliance programs, initiatives and projects to promote the compliance level in relation to unfair competition, anti-bribery and corruption and other relevant legal and compliance areas.
• Collaborating with Global privacy and information security teams to protect and comply with relevant laws on privacy and personal data protection, and minimize risks, and aligning with global stakeholders to comply with Global personal data protection policies.
• SupportingSenior Director, Legal & Compliance to manage internal personal information protection protocol and/or other policies and monitoringpersonal information protection law-relatedcompliance.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Strong background in contract law, drafting and negotiation
• Experience in privacy, employment and consumer protection law is preferred
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required (in English and Bahasa Indonesia)
• Strong commercial sense and ability to make practical evaluations of risks and offer pragmatic solutions while managing risk is required
• Must be fluent in English (written and spoken)
• High degree of stakeholder orientation and appropriate prioritization
• Ability to work independently and manage and prioritize substantial and diverse workload in a challenging legal environment
