Job summary

Alcon is seeking a Principal I, Automation & Control Engineering to lead design, development and maintenance of instrument/electrical and automation systems in our manufacturing environments. You will apply control theory and modeling to optimize performance while ensuring GMP-compliant documentation and training.

The role requires a strong background in PLCs, SCADA/HMI, project management, and leadership to drive cross-functional initiatives within our Engineering group.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Mechatronics, or related field.
• 10+ years in automation engineering; 5+ years in medical or manufacturing industries.
• Hands-on with PLCs, SCADA/HMI, and automation inspection systems.
• Proven project management experience (e.g., machine transfer).
• Strong English communication; leadership and collaboration skills.
• Experience in medical/pharma or FMCG manufacturing preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead projects for design, development, operation and maintenance of control systems.
• Apply mathematical modeling and control theory to optimize performance.
• Make technical decisions impacting project performance and innovation.
• Ensure compliance with GxP SOPs and maintain documentation.
• Stay updated with advancements in system design and automation.
