Job summary

Ajaib Group is seeking a Staff/Principal Backend Engineer to drive architecture and technical direction across core platforms. You will lead multiple engineering teams to build scalable, secure, and highly available distributed systems, while setting engineering standards.

As a senior technical leader, you will mentor engineers, collaborate with product and security teams, and ensure high quality software practices in a fully remote, international environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
• Extensive professional software engineering experience.
• Proficiency in Java or Go.
• Strong knowledge of microservices and cloud-native design.
• Experience with Kafka, Redis, and relational/NoSQL databases.
• Experience deploying on GCP/AWS and hybrid infrastructures.
• Fintech or highly regulated environment exposure preferred.
• Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Define and drive the long‑term technical architecture across multiple teams.
• Lead design and evolution of scalable, fault‑tolerant distributed systems.
• Review critical system designs and provide architectural guidance.
• Establish best practices in software design, observability, security, and performance.
• Partner with Engineering Managers to solve cross‑team challenges.
• Mentor senior engineers and grow technical capabilities.
• Identify risks, evaluate trade‑offs, and drive strategic technology decisions.
• Lead investigations and continuous improvements for large‑scale production systems.
• Collaborate with Product, Platform, Infrastructure, Security, and Business teams.
• Stay hands‑on with implementation for critical components.
