Job summary

APRIL in Pelalawan Regency, Riau, Indonesia, is seeking an experienced Automation Engineer to oversee PLC/DCS/SCADA systems within the pulp and paper plant. You will optimize performance, troubleshoot complex control issues, and lead automation improvement projects.

The ideal candidate has a strong background in electrical/electronics/automation engineering, at least eight years in PLC/automation, and a proven ability to work cross-functionally with maintenance, process, and operations teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Electronics/Automation/Instrumentation or related field.
• Minimum 8 years of experience in PLC/Automation Engineering.
• Mandatory experience in the Pulp & Paper industry.
• Strong knowledge of PLC, DCS, SCADA, HMI and industrial automation systems.

Responsibilities

• Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and optimize PLC and automation systems.
• Monitor reliability of PLC, DCS, SCADA, and related systems.
• Perform root-cause analysis to minimize downtime.
• Develop and modify PLC programs and control logic.
• Support commissioning, upgrades, and integration of systems.
• Collaborate with Electrical, Instrumentation, Process, Maintenance, Operations teams.
• Conduct preventive and corrective maintenance of automation equipment.
• Ensure compliance with standards, practices, and safety requirements.
• Provide technical guidance to technicians and engineering teams.
• Document PLC programs, configurations, and changes.

Job Description

• Responsible for the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and optimization of PLC and industrial automation systems within the plant.
• Monitor and ensure the reliability and availability of PLC, DCS, SCADA, and related automation systems.
• Perform troubleshooting and root cause analysis for PLC and control system issues to minimize equipment downtime.
• Develop, modify, and improve PLC programs, control logic, sequences, and automation systems based on operational requirements.
• Support commissioning, modification, upgrading, and integration of automation and control systems.
• Work closely with Electrical, Instrumentation, Process, Maintenance, and Operations teams to resolve automation-related issues.
• Conduct preventive and corrective maintenance for PLC, control systems, and related automation equipment.
• Ensure automation systems comply with company standards, engineering practices, and safety requirements.
• Provide technical support and guidance to technicians and other engineering teams.
• Participate in automation improvement projects, system upgrades, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Maintain proper documentation of PLC programs, control logic, system configuration, troubleshooting activities, and technical changes.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Automation Engineering, Instrumentation, or a related field.
• Minimum 8 years of relevant experience in PLC / Automation Engineering.
• Mandatory experience in the Pulp & Paper Industry.
• Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with PLC, DCS, SCADA, HMI, and industrial automation systems.
• Experienced in PLC programming, control logic development, troubleshooting, and system modification.
• Good understanding of process control, instrumentation, and industrial communication networks.
• Experience in plant commissioning, automation system upgrades, and improvement projects is an advantage.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
• Able to work effectively with cross-functional teams and communicate with both technical and operational stakeholders.
• Willing to be based in Pelalawan Regency, Riau, Indonesia.
• Candidates with experience in large-scale pulp and paper manufacturing operations are highly preferred.
