The Economist Group is seeking a Mobile Engineering Manager to lead our iOS and Android teams, shaping the future of our mobile platform. This player-coach role combines hands-on coding with leadership, delivery ownership and collaboration with product to deliver a fast, reliable mobile experience.

You will guide architecture, code reviews and engineering practices while partnering with product and design to translate roadmaps into actionable mobile plans in a hybrid work environment.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as an engineering manager or tech lead with mobile teams.
• Hands-on mobile development background in iOS/Swift and/or Android/Kotlin.
• Experience shipping consumer mobile apps at scale with app store processes.
• Ability to balance hands-on work with people leadership.
• Strong understanding of mobile performance, offline networking, testing, CI/CD.
• Excellent communication to collaborate with product/design.
• Ability to refine product requirements with stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Lead and grow the mobile engineering team across iOS and Android.
• Stay hands-on: review code and contribute to architecture decisions.
• Own delivery planning, prioritisation and blockers with product management.
• Uphold code quality, testing, performance and release practices.
• Partner with Product, Design, QA and backend teams to execute roadmaps.
• Define and refine mobile specifications with product teams and engineers.
