Job summary

The Economist Group is seeking a Mobile Engineering Manager to lead the iOS and Android engineering teams, owning health, delivery and growth of the mobile function. You will stay hands-on while guiding people, collaborating with product to shape what we build and why, and ensure a fast, reliable mobile experience.

You will recruit, mentor and manage engineers, drive architectural decisions, and partner across Product, Design, QA and backend teams to deliver high-quality, scalable mobile

Qualifications

• Proven experience as an engineering manager or tech lead with people-management responsibility for mobile engineers.
• Strong hands-on background in native mobile development (iOS/Swift and/or Android/Kotlin).
• Track record of shipping and operating consumer-facing mobile apps at scale, including release management.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work closely with product, design and other engineering teams.
• Strong product sense and ability to refine requirements beyond fixed inputs.

Responsibilities

• Lead and grow a team of iOS and Android engineers, providing day-to-day management and mentorship.
• Review code, contribute to architectural decisions, and dive into implementation when needed.
• Own delivery planning, prioritisation, and removing blockers with product management.
• Set and uphold standards for code quality, testing, performance, accessibility and release practices.
• Collaborate with product, design, QA and backend teams to translate roadmaps into a mobile plan.
• Drive improvements to engineering practices, including CI/CD, release cadence and monitoring.
• Recruit, interview and onboard new mobile engineers as the team grows.
• Represent mobile engineering in broader technical leadership discussions.
