Job summary

Japfa is seeking a microbiology laboratory professional to perform routine and non-routine microbiological tests on raw materials, feed ingredients, and finished products. You will identify contaminants, prepare media, operate instruments, and document results in a fast-paced environment.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology or related field and 1–2 years of microbiology lab experience, with strong attention to detail and good communication skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Biology, Food Science, or related field.
• 1–2 years in a microbiology lab, preferably in food/feed/pharma industries.
• Solid understanding of microbiological principles and aseptic practices.
• Proficient in microbiological tests including enumeration, pathogen detection, and identification.
• Familiar with GLP and relevant quality standards (ISO, HACCP).
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently and in teams in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficient in LIMS and MS Office Suite.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine and non-routine microbiological testing of samples using standard lab procedures.
• Identify and quantify microbial contaminants such as bacteria, molds, and yeasts.
• Prepare media, reagents, and samples per SOPs.
• Operate, calibrate, and maintain lab equipment ensuring accuracy.
• Document test results and maintain detailed records.
• Interpret results and report deviations to Quality Control Manager.
• Assist in troubleshooting microbiological issues and investigations.
• Participate in method validation and verification activities.
• Adhere to GLP, safety regulations, and quality systems.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of lab processes.

Job Responsibilities:

• Perform routine and non-routine microbiological testing of various samples, including raw materials, feed ingredients, and finished feed products using established laboratory procedures and techniques (e.g., plating, culturing, staining, enumeration).
• Identify and quantify microbial contaminants such as bacteria (e.g., Salmonella, E. coli), molds, and yeasts.
• Prepare media, reagents, and samples according to SOPs.
• Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory equipment, including incubators, autoclaves, microscopes, and analytical instruments, ensuring their proper functionality and accuracy.
• Document all test results accurately and meticulously, maintaining detailed records and laboratory notebooks.
• Interpret test results, identify deviations from specifications, and report findings to the Quality Control Manager.
• Assist in troubleshooting microbiological issues and investigations related to product quality or safety concerns.
• Participate in method validation and verification activities.
• Adhere to Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), safety regulations, and company quality management systems.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of laboratory processes and procedures.

Job Qualifications:

• Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in a microbiology laboratory, preferably within the food, feed, or pharmaceutical industry.
