Monroe Consulting Group, an Executive Recruitment firm, is partnering with a rapidly growing Fashion Retail company to hire a Merchandising Planner / Manager. This position will play a critical role in driving merchandise strategy, inventory optimization, commercial performance, and profitability across the business.
Position Overview
The Merchandising Planner / Manager will be responsible for developing and executing merchandise plans that maximize sales, margin, and inventory productivity. Working closely with Design, Buying, Product, Sales, eCommerce, Finance, Production, and Supply Chain teams, this role will ensure effective assortment planning, forecasting, and inventory management to support business growth and customer demand.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute merchandise assortment strategies and Open-to-Buy (OTB) plans in collaboration with Design and Buying teams, ensuring alignment with customer preferences, brand direction, and financial objectives.
- Forecast and manage sales performance, inventory levels, profitability, and margin targets across product categories while supporting overall business goals.
- Monitor inventory productivity and product performance, recommending replenishment strategies, markdowns, pricing adjustments, and promotional activities to maximize sell-through and minimize excess inventory.
- Prepare and present merchandise plans, financial forecasts, budgets, P&L analyses, and key planning reports, including OTB, WISSI, MISSI, style grading, and range planning.
- Generate actionable insights and recommendations for senior management through data analysis and commercial performance reviews.
- Partner closely with Design, Production, Warehouse, and Supply Chain teams to support critical path management and inbound inventory planning.
- Analyze market trends, competitor activities, customer behavior, and product performance to continuously refine merchandise strategies and assortment decisions.
- Ensure merchandise planning processes support both short-term trading opportunities and long-term business objectives.
Key Requirements
Qualifications & Experience
- Proven experience in Merchandising, Merchandise Planning, or Buying within the Fashion Retail industry.
- Strong background in assortment planning, inventory management, and commercial performance optimization.
- Demonstrated experience managing sales targets, gross margin performance, inventory investment, and profitability objectives.
Technical & Functional Expertise
- Strong understanding of merchandise planning methodologies, including OTB management, forecasting, range planning, WISSI/MISSI analysis, and style grading.
- Hands-on experience with inventory control, replenishment planning, markdown management, pricing strategy, promotions, and product lifecycle management.
- Strong financial acumen with the ability to interpret sales trends, inventory metrics, margin performance, and P&L results.
- Advanced analytical skills with the ability to translate data into actionable commercial recommendations.
Leadership & Collaboration Skills
- Proven ability to work cross-functionally with Design, Buying, Product Development, Sales, eCommerce, Finance, Production, Warehouse, and Supply Chain teams.
