Meratus Line calls for a Chief Officer to lead cargo planning, supervise loading and stowage, and ensure vessel stability and regulatory compliance. You will coordinate lashing, dangerous goods handling, and ship safety procedures with the Master and operations teams.
Responsibilities include monitoring stability and strength, supervising deck crew, maintaining documentation, and ensuring safe mooring, watchkeeping, and PMS-based maintenance aboard container vessels.
Chief Officer – Key Responsibilities (Container Vessel)1. Cargo PlanningResponsible for preparing and reviewing container stowage plans to ensure vessel stability, safety, and operational efficiency in compliance with applicable regulations.2. Supervision of Loading and Discharging OperationsSupervises all cargo loading and discharging activities to ensure operations are carried out according to the approved stowage plan and terminal procedures.3. Supervision of Lashing and Unlashing OperationsEnsures container lashing and unlashing are performed safely and in accordance with the Cargo Securing Manual (CSM) and company safety procedures.4.Stability and Strength MonitoringMonitors vessel stability, trim, draft, bending moments, and shear forces throughout cargo operations and the voyage to ensure safe limits are maintained.5.Dangerous Goods ManagementOversees the handling, stowage, segregation, documentation, and compliance of Dangerous Goods in accordance with the IMDG Code.6. Ship Safety OfficerActs as the Ship’s Safety Officer, ensuring full implementation of the Safety Management System (SMS) in compliance with the ISM Code.7.Training and Supervision of Deck CrewProvides training, guidance, and supervision to deck crew to ensure safe working practices and operational competence.8. Supervision of Deck and Hull MaintenanceOversees maintenance of deck equipment, hull structure, and cargo-related fittings in accordance with the Planned Maintenance System (PMS).9. Supervision of Mooring and Unmooring OperationsCoordinates and supervises mooring and unmooring operations to ensure safe and efficient berthing and unberthing.10. Watchkeeping OfficerPerforms navigational watchkeeping duties as assigned and assists the Master in the safe navigation of the vessel.11. Administration and DocumentationResponsible for maintaining accurate cargo documentation, safety records, inspection reports, and compliance-related paperwork.
